Soap Closeness ?

I wonder if this is just me.....

I can get a great lather and a comfortable shave with pretty much any shave soap I have tried. These include the popular tallow based soaps, brand names, and and artisan soaps.

Now that I have my technique down and can eliminate that as a variable, I am noticing that I get significantly closer shaves with certain soaps.

For example, I get a luxurious, fluffy, slick lather with PC soap but am left with rough patches. Two days later, I use the same razor and blade with Valobra stick and did the same number of passes and similar strokes. Result, BBS and no rough patches. (But the lather wasn't as fluffy and nice as PC.)

Does anyone else experience "closeness" of shave issues with different types of soaps?

Thanks!

Yes, soaps play a good role that will define a good shave to a bad shave. I don't have any issues with any of the soaps I use at the moment but if I have one that doesn't perform as well, I will mix it with a cream to make superlather!

I'm starting to notice this also. Or rather, I can get a close shave with pretty much any soap that I have but the comfort level of the shave varies with different soaps.

PC = Prairie Creations

Absolutely. Tallow and lanolin always give me a closer shave than glycerin. Additionally, the lather matters a ton. Too dry or too wet will make for spotty results.

I was trying to figure this out too. Some of our local stores carry President's Choice products that we abbreviate as PC. We used to have a PC party at the federal level of government . . . Progressive Conservative . . . one can go on and on, Pierre Cardin do they sell shaving cream?
