What's new

So you do get what you pay for.

Today used AOS unsented soap for the first time (thanks Grump) and I must say it was/still is an AMAZING shave :w00t:
I started months ago with the inexpensive soaps, VDH, Conk. Then stepped up a little with CO Bigalow cream and tabac soap (I love tabac ).

But this AOS is really something else. I used a 7 O'Clock (green box) and my Futur and I must say this is the best think since sliced bread!!

Now I'm starting to think of my xmas list to give the wife and kids, does anyone have some suggestions for soaps inline with AOS? (I do want the sandlewood now too).

Price is subjective so I wouldn't put too much weight on it, look at Pen's EF new formulation (piece of junk) and look at a tub of Cella for ~$11:001_wub:

AOS is a tallow product so I'd stick to products like it with tallow. MWF, Cella, DR. Harris, Valobra Sticks are just a few.

yeah, if you like AOS you should ask for a Valobra shave stick as it is from the same manufacturer. The sticks will travel well.

Also ask for Mitchell's Wool Fat in the ceramic bowl. Great performer and looks great on the counter.

And yes, Cella is great too. Effortless lather creamy lather.

DR Harris Arlington is amazing. :thumbup1:

Regarding price, it's my understand that DR Harris lasts forever. When I was a one soap at a time guy, my $10 or so pucks of C&E Almond would last 6-9 months.

I agree with the suggestions for MWF in the ceramic dish. It may be a small thing, but to my way of thinking it adds a lot to the shaving experience. In my case it reminds me of what my Dad and Grandfather use every day.

Cella is another great performer as is Ralph Lauren Safari. RL Safari pops up on the BST from time and also on the bay. I like it very much and it has a very nice scent that stays with me for a time. It lathers extremely well as does Cella.

There are many fine soaps that do not contain tallow. The George F. Trumper soaps are top performers as is TOBS Lavender. They are triple milled and they have wonderful scents.

You have embarked on a great journey, enjoy the voyage.

I have used AoS Unscented for a while and also love the shave..

I asked the same question as you.. from a performance perspective, what other software would be similar to AoS? I was also interested in something with a similar consistency.. a soft soap, but not a true cream.

The suggestions included Cella di Parma and P.160 Tipo Morbido.. both are classic Italian semi-soft soaps.

The P.160 is discontinued as of late 2009 but you can still find it. It has an incredible scent of Amaretto.

The Cela is near scent free to my nose. There were some reports of rancid batches of Cela, but fortunately mine is awesome.

Both have similar performance but I find both far more difficult to lather than the AoS cream.

AOS unscented is one of my top three favorite soaps. Plisson and Mitchell's Wool Fat are the other two. If you want to give an artisan soap a try Prairie Creations soap is good stuff as well...and Krissy has an unreal amount of scents.

I would highly recommend the Plisson and Mitchell's. If you like AOS I think you would be quite pleased with these two.

Valobra also makes the Czech & Speake soaps, which tend toward the high end of the price range. #88 has a very nice rose based scent and Oxford & Cambridge is an excellent lavender.

You can try soap from, Plisson, Kent in a wood bowl( made from Mitchell's special for Kent), Muhle, Edwin Jagger.

Try some of our own mretzloff's creations. I understand he whips them up in his kitchen.

I have tried both the Sandalwood and Cedar-Lemongrass.
Both are terrific as to smoothness, moisture, latherability, and complex scent.

The Lime is next on my list if I can sneak it past SWMBO.

They have a sampler pack as well.

I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed.
