So which 10?

I currently have about 30 vintage Gillettes. Some duplicates, no high dollar collectibles. I have multiple fatboys, slims, super speeds, techs, and a few one of a kinds. My wife is annoyed. I would like to get to 12 - 15 that I know I will use... at least before the turn of the century. Help me decide which 10, in your opinion, of the vintage Gillettes to keep. In order, if you don't mind, according to shave quality. Thanks.

Oh, and watch on the BST.

I'm afraid we don't know what you have except the 4 you mentioned. The first thing you could do is keep only the best one of what you have duplicates of.

I'm going through a similar process myself. I plan to keep those that give me the best shave, which may very well be different from those that give you the best shave.

So it is not a good idea to get Gillette razor in the BST forum from your guys?

I know blade choice and technique also have a lot to do with the shave. If I remember correctly I have:

2 gold techs
1 fat handletech
3 40's ss
5 flare tips
3 news
3 red tips
4 fatboys
5/6 slims
1 super adjustables
1 gold fat handle tech
1 British tech
1 black handle ss
1 senator
And I know I didn't remember everything.

No wonder my wife ask me "how many more are you going to get?"

You don't need a Senator. . .I need a Senator!

I agree with our colleagues - one of everything is probably just fine, with the exception of Birth Year Razors. I stock up on those so I will have something to give to any future shavers in my family (I am a father of 2 daughters).

Pick your 10 favorites, hide the rest in the attic... you never know, they could go up in value markedly (what to say if she catches on...).

Here's a good clue as to what to keep. Start by saving what everybody is putting their dibs in for. From what I see it's a Senator, Fatboy, Red Tip, Slim and a New. That's a pretty good start to me. I also think everybody needs a Tech and a '40's SS. That's 7. You only need 3 more. You pick your favorites now.

+2 on that.

Another answer would be, don't buy any more, but keep what you have.
Then trade off on BST what you have extra of, to get what you don't have.
I do NOT have the supportive SWMBO that other folks do, but she does grudgingly respect that I'm serious about this stuff.

Ship half of them to me for "safe keeping". And, since you sound like such a nice guy I will do this at no charge to you. I will even send you pictures of them on major holidays.
