What's new

So....what did you do on your summer vacation?

Yep, just like the grade school essay you had to do when summer was over...

Anyone want to share what they did this summer? It can be an exciting trip description or maybe you stayed home and cooked on the grill. Did you travel? Maybe you finished your degree with one last summer class. Let us know how your summer went.

I'll share a bit later once the thread (hopefully) starts rolling.

What's a summer vacation?

Seriously, we did make trip to Las Vegas to move my son down there for school, then this month I shot the Idaho State Cowboy Action Championship. Next month is Cycle Oregon, a bike ride with 1999 other people...

Okay..for those of you who take vacations at other times of the year, well, you can play too. Share what you did for fun on any vacation this past year.

I took a cruise to the Mediterranean- Barcelona, Sorrento, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Florence, Rome, Monte Carlo, and Nice. A complete walletectomy, but what a blast.

Naturally, now that I've spent all of my money, Tony will reveal that he took up stropmaking over the summer.

Well so far I've worked all summer. Hit the beach on the weekends when I was able to. Vacation is coming at the end of October when I'll be heading to Disney World for a week.

I'm jealous. And your avi confuses me.

I spent the Summer at home except for 2 wks in Vegas. Great food. Didn't gamble.

Vacation for me means two consecutive days off work (or two days off in a week, period). As such, no vacation. It would be nice to let my body recuperate from the daily grind, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

I'm on in now. Although I'm not sure taking 3 of my 4 kids to see my folks for 5 days counts. It's a trip, but I always thought a vacation was supposed to be relaxing.

I spent the summer on leave from work to help my wife take care of our baby girl. It was fun. We went out to our camp for a bit, did whatever we wanted to. But now it's back to work.

Since my oldest was going to start kindergarten we figured this was going to be our last opportunity for vacations until school breaks.

Atlantis, Disneyworld, Palm Springs:blink:, and Mom.

Mine were nothing exotic but all were very relaxing.

At my "real job" (not strop making) we went to a 4 day, 40 hour week so I now have every Friday off. That alone is like a vacation once a week now having 3 days off in a row.

We live about 3 hours from the beach. Close enough to make it an easy drive, just far enough to make the trip a special event. We take a few 4 day weekends at Rehoboth Beach Deleware which is more like a normal city with shops and fine dining placed next to the ocean. We stay a block away from the beach and enjoy great lunches, dinners and people watching. Most of the crowd is young couples with small children or older empty nesters like us. Not a lot of the teen wildness of other beach areas.

This past week we spent a week at Ocean City Maryland. Much more of a party place but this late in the summer the college aged kids are gone during the week and the crowds are half of what they would have been a few weeks ago. Here we rent an ocean front room and again spend our time relaxing, enjoying good food and people watching. Being an empty nester now all the action filled vacations of entertaining our daughter are behind us so these trips become a nice time to enjoy each other.

While ocean City is not really our favorite at this age, we were both born and raised in Maryland and this was the "go to" spot. We were here with our parents as little kids, brought our child here to enjoy what we did, now go as a couple to remember good times.

Spring and fall we take some time to visit with our Amish friends in Lancaster County Pa, partly for business, partly for fun.

Fall and winter are just spent on nearby day trips.

We are not much on exotic vacations, I have never been to any island resorts and have only flown twice in my life. It would be nice to see other parts of the country some time but when I have time off I prefer not to drive for days to get somewhere.

Anyway, nothing fancy but ohh so much enjoyable time.

Thanks,
Tony

I got to go to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend this summer. My Aunt & Uncle & their two little ones, Mum & Dad, Grandma & Grandpa all convened on the place in celebration of Grandma and Grandpa's 50 anniversary. I got to also meet up with Ray (Swampfox) and his wife and Adam. Meeting friends from B&B was great!

Other than that, no real vacation yet. However, my wife is going to Wisconsin in a couple of weeks as a consultant for a company. So, we are taking a little extra time and renting a Houseboat on the Mississippi for a few days. Should be fun.

I visited my grandparents in Frankfurt, Germany and stayed a week in Berlin. Berlin was pretty interesting. It was my first time there.

I'll be going to Seattle on saturday for a week! I'm gonna try and get to a mariners game, maybe make it up to vancouver for a couple of days and then down to olympic national park.

I was just in Ocean City last month. I live about a half hour from there but don't go there much. Usually i'll go to Sunfest which is sort of a party for the local people. With my job my schedule is 2 and 2, meaning i am gone for 2 weeks and home for 2 weeks. So it can be pretty interesting on my off time. I'm going to Bristow Va on Tuesday which should be fun (concert at Jiffy Lube Live) i guess you could say i have a vacay every 2 weeks
