What's new

So I tried the Family Dollar Old Spice.

And I like it. I'm 21, and it might be kind of an odd scent for a 21 year old to wear, but nonetheless, I like it. It's perfect for the colder weather coming right now, too. Before this, the only aftershave I used was a random Avon one I didn't like too much (was in a globe) and Adidas, but I'd been using the Adidas for well over a year, and wanted to try something new, and the Adidas bottle was running low. I was up early in the morning reading this site and how the Family Dollar Old Spice is closer to the original and I was sold. Not bad stuff at all. Just I don't know how it'll be wearing it as a young person as far as people's perceptions. But I like how it smells, and I'm the one who has to smell it most, right?

I've been using Old Spice since high school (late 60's), I guess because my brother did. I liked the way he smelled. Besides, he always had hot chicks, so I figured it had to be the OS! Well, I never attracted the cute girls that he did, but I always smelled good!

I picked up the Family Dollar OS a few weeks ago, and it's pretty darned good!

Scents don't have age brackets, that's nothing more than marketing, and the perception of others.

Wear what you like, and wear it with pride!!

............girls prefer the smell of a new Porsche.................if they could only bottle that scent..............

It's a white bottle with a black cap and a red sticker. I think it just says family dollar spice aftershave.

I've been using the FD Spice since May. Yeah, it's probably better for winter than summer, but I've got no complaints about it. It's a good value as a daily use aftershave. I have some better stuff for dates and such, but it's cheaper to go with the discount store AS most of the time.

As to whether it's an odd fragrance for a man your age, just ask the women in your life what they think about it without telling them what it is. Go with whatever works.

Thanks, I'll have a look this week.

When you find it, turn the bottle upside down and look for the small, script "Vijon" logo there. In the past it's been known as "Ivy Club" spice, but they may have changed the labeling. It's also known to lurk in CVS stores under their house brand, and Meijer as well, IIRC. Wherever you find it, though, if it's made by Vijon, it's the real deal. Good luck!

Since it's so close I took a quick break and picked some up, had the Vijon logo underneath the bottle indeed. Not bad at all for $1.75! I need to try it after a fresh shower (it's been a long stinky day).

I'm wearing it today. Not a lot of heaing/conditioning ingredients but it has the familiar scent which I like and the scent lasts pretty long which I also prefer. Thumbs up cheapie product! If anyone was really attempting to put together a super budget DE kit, the Vijon spice AS would be a strong contender for inclusion. I might start experimenting with mixing it with witch hazel for a more healing quality.

Here's a thought for you: get yourself some glycerin (available at most WallyWorlds and pharmacies for about $4 for a 6 oz. bottle) and try adding a few drops to a decanted amount of that AS. The glycerin acts as a humectant/moisturizer, and really makes a difference in face feel. Just go light at first--it's easy to add to much glycerin and give yourself a case of "the stickies". For about an ounce, I'd start with no more than a drop or two. You can always add more if you'd like.

Remember, most AS is nothing more than alcohol, a moisturizer, and scent. You've already got two of those three with the Vijon, and it's easy to add the third and get a great, healing aftershave with the traditional OS scent for just pennies!

A good idea. The Vijon does have glycerin in it I think but it still feels like it's just pure alchohol and scent. Maybe a mix of the Vijon, some glycerin, and witch hazel. I think the Speik and Proraso splashes have witch hazel and they are fabulous.
