So i just bought this, just because i think it looks cool! I haven´t really done any research on what it is and how it works but i think its a single edge razor? Did i make a fool out of myself buying this for about 13 USD?
Thank you all for the thumbs up! Now since i live in Scandinavia i found out that actually getting blades for this razor seems rather difficult. Please share your knowledge on how to get my hands on some blades.
1912 in case with instructions for $13.00 that's a great deal. Any cased razor for $13.00 is a deal actually. I bet you could get $30 for it on a good day but you may like the 1912 it is not bad at all. Their 30's streamline is a big improvement but the 1912 is decent.
The New Improved Ever-Ready razor came in a Bakelite case with single edge blades. This little ensemble was called "The Peerless Set", not to be confused with GEM's Peerless Set. The razor was first manufactured from about 1930 until 1950 (possibly even later).
The paperwork in that set includes an illustration of "British-Made Blades." That may or may not be significant because later versions contained "Corrux" blades.* The razor is similar to the GEM 1912, but there are several minor differences.
*correction, these blades were not available until the very late-late 1940s.
Was it foolish of you? It was very much not foolish!
They're great razors, and that one looks like a very nice example at a very nice price. I also support the suggestion of getting GEM blades from Connaught - they ship worldwide and are speedy and well-priced. These are the blades you need...
I have one, but it doesn't have the scroll pattern on the handle like yours has. It provides A Great Shave, Just be Careful. You are very lucky to get such a nice razor for That Amount, Great Buy!
