What's new

Skin Tags

I don't know about you but I'm prone to those little tags of skin on my neckline.

Lanced one pretty good while shaving today :cursing:

Is there anything I can do to make them dry up and fall off so they don't get in the way of my shave?

Thanks

Skin tags usually form where skin is rubbed together or against clothing for extended periods of time. (under arms, thighs etc.) There is a product that works on these. I will get the name and send to you when I find the box. I burns for about 10-15 minutes, but that's it. The tag will turn black, scab over and fall off. Neosporin is applied for two weeks to prevent scarring. It works pretty well, but just do one at a time. Larry

I get them under my arms. I will make a tight knot with dental floss to choke off its blood supply. They drop off after less than a week. The idea came from my doctor!

Whenever I've had one of those I just keep twisting it. Just grab it between your thumb and forefinger and roll it in one direction. When you feel it pinch, stop twisting it. Do this 2 times a day, morning and night, each time you will be able to twist it a bit further. After a few days it'll just come off, and you won't have to do anything else. Works every time, and that's also on advice from a doctor. It works and doesn't cost anything. :thumbup1:

Oww. I winced just from reading that.

Check with your doctor 1st. Need to make sure it is not cancer or anything.

I despise those buggers. My old doctor used to just snip them off. My next doctor wouldn't snip, said that snipping may not get all of it. He instead insisted on using some liquid freezy stuff. Well, the stuff spilled out and onto my skin which left me with an ugly wound that took ages to heal. Burned like a mother. Luckily that tag was below my shirt line.

I haven't been to see a doctor since then. :glare:

Now I've got two new ones. Thinking about taking the nail clippers to 'em.

I am not sure if I should brag about this, but in my general dermatology clinic I am really good at freezing skin tags (acrochordons). You cant use a cup and q-tip for the liquid nitrogen, you need to use a liquid nitrogen cryac (spray gun) positioned parallel to the surface of the skin so that it just freezes the tag and nothing else. Sometimes for big tags I freeze the other side as well. The freeze lasts for about 20 seconds, then they fall off a week later. I've done many thousands of them, and this is definitely the best way. However, other colleagues I know like to snip them off with small sharp sterile scissors and then use chemical cauterants (same as styptic pencil) to stop bleeding.

Its best to get this done by a dermatologist though. Mainly its because there is a small chance what you think is a skin tag is really an invasive skin cancer which would not be treated by simple freezing.

I, in fact, have become pretty efficient at removing skin tags. I remove them for all my family.

I use a sharp pair of surgical scissors (can be bought at around 10$ at eBay or any good supplier) and cut the skin tag at the base, as close to the skin as possible but not closer. I then apply a polysporin preparation and cover with a plaster.

I remove at least three times a year on myself, I even removed some on my face and on my neck. The only part that hurts, is when you cut. The pain lasts for less than two seconds and then it's gone.

To alleviate the pain, you can use topical anesthetic that can be bought at the store like lidocaine, or my favorite the EMLA cream.

I tried using nail clippers, or other type of sharp clippers, but found out that the overlapping surgical scissors were the best because they cut the tag in one shot as opposed to clippers with which you will need to twist the cut skingtag in order to detach it from the skin.
