Simpsons AS balm and Skin Food

I was able to try the Skin Food with today's shave. As luck would have it, it was a pretty rough shave around my chin so I was able to get an idea of how soothing/healing it will be. It's a sort of runny cream, but not so watery that it pours out of the tube. A dime size amount, about what I would use with Nivea or Proraso proved to be way too much, even after patting off some with a towel. I rinsed it and applied a tiny bit, less than a pea size spot. It absorbed quickly, and felt very soothing to the moderate razor burn I had going on. The thing that's really impressive is the finish feeling it leaves on the skin after being absorbed - like touching cool silk. First impressions are that it's a very high quality product, and not so terribly expensive as it seemed at first, since so little of it is needed. I will try the after shave balm Sunday.

Hello tfinch,

Would you be kind enough to post the list of ingredients for the Simpson Skin Food?

Thanks,
Mike

Sure thing. Here's the ingredient list for the Skin Food-

Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Octyldodecanol, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Olivoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Oleate, Dimethicone, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate, Canola Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.

I was going to try the aftershave balm last weekend, but figured I'd give the skin food a good solid week of use to see if any problems come up with breakouts or anything first. So far it's treating me very well.

I am interested in seeing which of the two you prefer. Perhaps the pro's & con's. Also, what is the scent like for each? Would it conflict with my cologne.

Thanks.

Couldn't wait, curiosity got the best of me and I tried the balm today. Consistency is almost the same as far as I can tell, but has quite a different feel after it absorbs. The finish on the balm is a little more moist, but not sticky. I would suspect it's a bit heavier even though it's hard to distinguish in the appearance and feel of the product when in hand. It's only one use for the balm, but I think the skin food is maybe a little more soothing.

As far as scent, there's only a very faint lotion type of smell to each. The skin food has just a hint of that strange scent that's present in the Simpson's Luxury shaving cream, to my nose sort of like wet paper. I don't think either of them would interfere with cologne - I'd call them about as unscented as something can be.

I think I'll have to flip a coin to decide which one to reorder, myself. I really like them both. Seems like Simpsons has done well when they decided to put their name on a line of skin care products, definitely top notch.

Well, I couldn't resist any longer and ordered one each of the skin food and aftershave balm. I was surprised that the skin food was opaque and creamy like your typical balm and not gel-like as Trumper's skin food is. I also can't tell any difference then between the skin food and the balm. Except the balm is 75ml and the skin food is 100ml so presumably you are supposed to use less of the balm, but I also didn't find that to be the case. I will have to use these products a bit more before I am convinced one way or the other, but was not wowed right off the bat like their shaving cream did to me.
