Shick Injector Type I-2 Hydro-magic Feature

Two of my favorite razors are the Schick Injector Type I-1 and the Schick Injector Type I-2 Hydro-magic.

I think the Hydro-magic feature is fine and clever, but I'm not sure it really accomplishes anything. It seems to me the I-2 is kept very clean by thoroughly rinsing after each shave and shaking it. I also believe ejecting and loading a new blade has a slight cleaning action on the blade chamber. I also would ask if the Hydro-magic was such a valuable feature, then why was it permanently discontinued after a production run of 3 short years?

It seems to me the I-1 and the I-2 are easily kept equally clean, without using the Hydromagic lever on the I-2. I seldom use the Hydro-magic lever, and when I do, I never see any accumulation of gunk. The interior of the Schick Hydro-magic always seems as clean as the interior of the I-1 that does not have the Hydro-magic feature.

What are your thoughts on all this?

I have a Lady Eversharp K-3 hydromagic that was in production long after the I-2 was discontinued.

I find that the blades rinse cleaner when they are floating and the head is opened.

No difference in the shave, just easier maintenance is all.

I think the "hydro-magic" lever really worked, and it helped against gunk build-up, especially since injector blades (at least for me) last longer. I would imagine that the reason they didn't keep making them was because they were more expensive to manufacture than the non-rinsing ones.
