Shawl Collar Sweaters

Gentlemen:
(And ladies feel free to comment, as well):

I am looking to change my work wear slightly, as I am spending more time in the field and, frankly, am one of two people in our building that dress like we actually are at work.

To avoid dressing down to the sweatshirt level, I am considering a "shawl collar" sweater, something like this below. Too casual? Too (or not enough) something else?

Regards,

- John

I like them. They remind my of the brown wool sweater I used to wear under my BDU blouse in cold weather or the black wool sweater that used to be authorized with the Class B uniform (don't get me started on the new Army uniform changes). Neither of mine had an actual collar, though, just ribbed or buttoned necks.

That's a nice looking sweater. I like shawl collars ... they are more interesting than the standard can-buy-it-anywhere crewneck.

I can't really say if it's suitable for your work ... as I don't know where you work.:lol:

Just a plain vanilla engineering type. I wear (or have been wearing, out of long habit), buffed shoes, plain front chinos, oxford shirt and --about three days a week-- a muted tie. For contrast, most of the other guys wear a mixture of everything, with the lowest standard being sweat pants (yes, no kidding) and the median being jeans with reasonable shirts.

Sounds like a sweater like the one pictured would be fine to wear to work then!

i really like my shawl collar on those cold days...i have two of these in the front button vest style...and sometimes in the bitter cold I actually use the collar and button it up....from orvis...

I think that they are a very nice smart casual look. I've got a nice grey one from a New Zealand clothing company called Logan.

You'll be good to go. That is a very good looking sweater - in fact, I'm probably going to buy a couple for work. If there are folks there in jeans and sweatpants, you'll be several cuts above. :)

I like that sweater, and it sounds like you'll be better dressed than most of your colleagues. Get it.

This thread was a good reminder that I could do with another one or two shawl collar sweaters. I managed to pick up a pre owned J-Crew off eBay for the princely sum of US$7.49
