Shaving while sitting and no sink?

As I sat outside on a beautiful summer morning I thought to myself about shaving. I was thinking, Do any of you sit down while you shave? One other thing too, I saw a man with a set up that had no sink. It was just a jug of water and what I would say about a 4-6inch deep bowl, and would shave on a chest of drawers. Does anyone else do this? I am just curious.

I always shave sittign down and i do not have a sink to shave at, I have a bowl of hot water and a mug which i shake the razor in.

I have never taken the kit outside but i might do that on a lovelly morning.

I'll have to try the same. I could imagine it would be a soothing experience on a quiet morning with just the sound sof nature.

The man you saw was doing what one had to do before running water.

Well I figured that, but was curious if anyone still shaved like that. The man I saw was a member here. I remember he had an OD green sheet or something on top and a picture of his grandfather I believe on the side. It was very nice.

The chest of drawers you mention was no doubt a proper washstand. My mother deals in antiques and we had a lovelly old metal one for a time that was made for the army no doubt for an officer to use whilst in the field. It had a lovelly lid and draws etc..

Here is the thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=81088&highlight=shave&page=18 It is alittle up from the bottom. I assume he is a straight shaver as I can see a strop in the reflection of the mirror.

Thats a neat set up. I'd love to try a shave outside on a nice warm morning... (sigh)... However I live in the city and this would not be very peaceful. Although I've made a commitment to myself to shave the next time I'm on a camping trip.

I do that in the morning getting ready for work, sit in front of the tv in my "man cave" with a bowl of hot water, a cup of hot water for soaking the brush, favorite shaving mug, and a cup of tea. I soak the brush, pour a little hot water over the soap, wash the face, and use the bowl for dipping the razor while shaving, a little piece of heaven to start the day. The previous guy was right, everyone shaved that way, out of a bowl and a mug, before running water. Actually, when I was serving in the middle east, this was a routine at "camp" that I looked forward to doing often as possible. We boiled up water for shaving and coffee and it was a little luxury in a place where there were none. I remember sitting up early in the morning watching for smugglers across the border through a spotting scope, shaving out of my bowl, sipping tea, with my shaving brush perched on top of our "bad guy zapper" waiting for angry trick or treaters. Shaving is full of memories when I think about it and you can do it almost anywhere, bc

And they tossed the dirty water out the window when they were done.
hahaha

That is a great story. I'll have to give this a try someday.

The no sink shaving area is Daves

That strop you see is a valet autostrop razor strop,
and i think dave mainly shaves with gem and other SE razors

used to do this often with a catridged and de in the sauna. throw on some shave oil, steam it up with a drop or two of eucalyptus eo on the rocks, and glide away. used the tap to rinse the razor. beast shave ever with a mach 3.
