Shaving towels

I use those "micro fiber" kitchen towels. Thicker than normal kitchen towels and the right size for your face.

I use an Ayate cloth, that I get from a local health-food store for around $7 ... it looks like burlap, but feels really soft when it gets wet and broken in. It does a great job of exfoliating my beard, and while it doesn't hold a lot of water, it holds enough to give about a 10 second Kyle's Prep soak before I need to refill it with more hot water.

My only complaint with this cloth is that it is a tad small ... its doesn't quite cover my whole face at one time, so I have to do it half-n-half. I'd like to use it in the shower to exfoliate everything else, too. I inquired at the store if they could get me a larger one, but they couldn't find anything else besides just the one size.

Another good choice for soaking your face for a Kyle's Prep is the traditional chamois cloth that they sell to wash cars with. Be sure to buy a good one, i.e. one that is fairly thick. It holds A LOT of water, it feels really super soft on the skin, and it lasts forever. You just want to use water on this cloth, not soap. Just wring it out really well when you're done, stretch it a little to maintain the original shape, and hang it up to dry.

I've also used those synthetic chamois cloths ... much cheaper than genuine goat-skin chamois, and they work almost as well. Its safe to use soap on this one, but rinse it out completely before you put it away.

+1. I bought a huge package of them from Costco (I think they were in the automotive department). They absorb a lot of water and keep warm for some time. I like my hot towel to be on the wet side so this works great.

I just got one as a freebie from Badger & Hone for placing an order over £20. Not tried it yet as it only came in the post this morning.

FYI: If anyone wants a ShamWow! (or actually several of them), they are the item of the day on www.woot.com today. $17.99 shipped for a 16 pack. I'm not buying one, but I saw it and then saw this comment, and had to pass it on.

UPDATE-Sur La Table, a upscale kitchen boutique store and chain, has a set of 4 microfiber washcloths for $5.00. These hold extra water and heat in for 30-60 seconds depending on the temperature. I find these work better than regular cotton bathcloths.

Costco has some nice micro-fiber ones as well as terrycloth ones. The terrycloth ones a wash 3-4 times in hot water before using. They soften up nice.
