What's new

(shaving related) things to do in Boston??

will be in Boston in a few weeks for business, and being that it is the home of Gillette, is there anything i should try and see while i am there??

As far as I know, Gillette does everything possible to hide its pre-cartridge history. But there are some great stores, if you'd like to blow your travel budget. Colonial Drug and Leavitt & Peirce are both great shops in Harvard Square. There are also a lot of barber shops around, but I can't speak to the quality of their shaves.

+1 to the above and there are AoS stores in Copley Place. Of course no visit to Boston is complete without paying dues and respect to the Red Sox shrine

its true, but it really is crazy. you would think they (gillette) would have a museum or something to show off the 'evolution' (more like regression) in their razor designs. what a pity

thanks for the recommendations!

I find it hilarious. I doubt if anything about the museum would drive customers from their cartridges to the DE market. If anything, the museum would just cement the fact that Gillette has basically had market dominance for a century. Whether you like their current products or not, that's pretty impressive, and they should be proud of it. There's really no reason for them to try to hide the beautiful razors they made decades ago.

Well, in the pre P&G period this might have made sense, but not no more. Besides, the Gillette plant isn't located anywhere near the usual tourist paths, making the commercial or branding benefit of such a museum slim to none at best.

Jeff in Boston

Ya know, I worked for about a year at the Gillette Manufacturing plant in Andover, MA, after graduating from college (1989), and I had no idea about DE shaving until about a month and a half ago! I remember no hint of the company's product history there. Maybe the South Boston facility is different?
