Shaving in a rush Challenge

After a few months away (trying to Sabattical myself by way of isolation, and failing) I am back poking around, and catching up on happenings at B&B, and a couple of comments caught my eye along the lines of "DE shaving is only for people who want to spend at least 10 minutes (probably more) shaving." That got me to thinking, I have been DE shaving for slightly under three years, I have a few hundred shaves under my belt, and I am almost certain that after the first hundred or so, most of them have taken less than ten minutes, probably a lot less, but I have never thought to time myself. Now don't get me wrong, I like to take my time and go slow and enjoy my shave on a pretty regular basis, but I live a pretty rushed and hectic life and I can't take 20 minutes to shave every single day. I did some searching, but I didn't turn up any threads on this, though I am sure some exist, I have never seen one.

So here is the challenge:

How quick can you get a passable shave with a DE razor from prep to aftershave without doing serious damage to your face or cutting any extreme corners? I mean, anyone with a serious tolerance for pain could do a single pass ATG pass in cold water with no lather, but that's not really the point here. I am talking about a brush, two or more passes, and an aftershave of some kind, without serious bloodletting.

I don't plan to change much from my ordinary weekday setup to go for speed, here is my planned setup:

Hot Water & Proraso Pre-Post prep;
Omega 10018 (Small) boar brush;
RazoRock S. Maria cream;
Face Lather
RazoRock TTO loaded with an Astra SP on its (Second or third I can't remember) shave;
2 Pass shave WTG / ATG
Proraso splash
Caps back on containers, brush and razor rinsed and back on their stand and face free of stray lather.

I bet I come in under well under 10 minutes, but maybe I am wrong. Maybe shaving gives me a strange sort of time warp.

I shave in the evening, so I will post my own results pretty quick, here. Who's in with me? How fast can a reasonable shave go without too many cut corners or faces?

Edit: for clarity's sake, so that everyone is on the same clock, timing starts when the first water hits you or your gear, and ends when your gear is put away in a state where you won't look like a bum if someone sees your den.

I've got my shaving time down to a smooth twenty minutes (plus or minus a bit). That twenty minute investment, three passes plus a touch up, almost always gives me a DFS. It also means I don't have to shave again that day when SWMBO says we are going out that evening.

I like that twenty minutes and do my best to keep in my morning schedule. When it can't be fitted in I usually don't shave at all.

That's MHO, YMMV, and AOM too. :biggrin1:

Gentlemen, par is established at three minutes thirty seven seconds. It wasn't the closest shave I ever had, certainly not the most relaxing, and the lather could have been better, but it was far from the worst I ever had.

I would guess that my normal shave is around five minutes based on my time while rushing, and taking my time maybe ten minutes. Heresy, I'm sure for a relaxed luxurious shave to be ten minutes or under.

I could easily shave (har har) some time off of that number if I used a cream to lower the loading time or even brushless cream to eliminate lathering altogether. Maybe that is my next attempt.

Or you could just use Fusion and a can of...wait, never mind.

Found this vid a while back, seems like it would fit this thread LIKE A GLOOOOOOOOOOVE!

Great Challenge but I'll pass - that 30 minutes post-shower every morning has a strange, time-dilation effect where I don't even realize that a half hour has passed.

There's a reason I took the clock out of the bathroom - that is MY time and I will ruddy well enjoy it :001_tt2:

My idea of a fast shave is 2 passes with touchups, WTG/XTG at an angle between XTG and WTG. I have to shower beforehand no matter what if I want to avoid whisker pulling/discomfort. I have no idea how much time this takes, but when I am rushed my shave suffers and I can nick myself or get some razorburn.

With five blades, it must be FIVE TIMES faster, right?

The point of this exercise is a good shave in not much time. Everyone will have a different standard, most people here would say that a fusion and goo is not a good shave. Many might say a bit of Creamo and a two pass shave with their favourite DE would suffice if they were running late but needed to be presentable. Lots would rather grow a beard than abandon five passes with a freshly honed straight plus touch ups with a hot towel to start and pre shave soap, pre shave oil, über lather, balm, splash, and edt.

Of course, that would take more than three minutes and thirty seven seconds.

Holy smokes! I would have guessed some Funny business was afoot if he didn't have that big nick on his chin. Doesn't run from the start of a soaking brush to everything put away, but 3:48 for a 1.5 pass straight shave is sure something to watch! I watched it with no sound, but this guy strikes me as Australian. Do I guess wrong?

Uniform DFS result tonight after comfortable shave with 2 XTG passes of 36 hours old stubble, using Rocket SS, Astra SP (2), Kent BK8, face lathering Viking cream, Proraso AS - 2:57 minutes total; not counting the time to wash the brush and the razor in the end though ...

This exercise reminded me my Army days - it happened more than once to have a few minutes to rush to the bathrooms, put some cold water on the face, apply a layer of regular hand bar soap quickly, and do 1-pass shave with a Czechoslovak made Astra blade, and a crappy 4-piece Tech alike military issue razor.

Hey, a fellow Albertan! Your current setup sounds a lot better than your somewhat scary army shave. 2:57, good time. Does that include brush soaking and whatnot?
