After a few months away (trying to Sabattical myself by way of isolation, and failing) I am back poking around, and catching up on happenings at B&B, and a couple of comments caught my eye along the lines of "DE shaving is only for people who want to spend at least 10 minutes (probably more) shaving." That got me to thinking, I have been DE shaving for slightly under three years, I have a few hundred shaves under my belt, and I am almost certain that after the first hundred or so, most of them have taken less than ten minutes, probably a lot less, but I have never thought to time myself. Now don't get me wrong, I like to take my time and go slow and enjoy my shave on a pretty regular basis, but I live a pretty rushed and hectic life and I can't take 20 minutes to shave every single day. I did some searching, but I didn't turn up any threads on this, though I am sure some exist, I have never seen one.
So here is the challenge:
How quick can you get a passable shave with a DE razor from prep to aftershave without doing serious damage to your face or cutting any extreme corners? I mean, anyone with a serious tolerance for pain could do a single pass ATG pass in cold water with no lather, but that's not really the point here. I am talking about a brush, two or more passes, and an aftershave of some kind, without serious bloodletting.
I don't plan to change much from my ordinary weekday setup to go for speed, here is my planned setup:
Hot Water & Proraso Pre-Post prep;
Omega 10018 (Small) boar brush;
RazoRock S. Maria cream;
Face Lather
RazoRock TTO loaded with an Astra SP on its (Second or third I can't remember) shave;
2 Pass shave WTG / ATG
Proraso splash
Caps back on containers, brush and razor rinsed and back on their stand and face free of stray lather.
I bet I come in under well under 10 minutes, but maybe I am wrong. Maybe shaving gives me a strange sort of time warp.
I shave in the evening, so I will post my own results pretty quick, here. Who's in with me? How fast can a reasonable shave go without too many cut corners or faces?
Edit: for clarity's sake, so that everyone is on the same clock, timing starts when the first water hits you or your gear, and ends when your gear is put away in a state where you won't look like a bum if someone sees your den.
