Shaving bowl flaking

After prying my puck of Col Conks bay rum shave soap out of the wooden bowl its been living in for a month to mill it, I noticed there were dark splotches throughout the soap. After cleaning out the bowl I realized that there is a fine layer of stain/clear coat/ or something that is flaking off the rim and bottom where the soap was for a long period of time.

Should I just toss the bowl?

This is rather distressing to regular users of the Conk. Try cleaning out the bowl with dandruff shampoo and see if that works. Bury the Conk soap in the backyard (but not near pipes).

(I don't want to leave you hanging. You might have to sand your bowl down and refinish it with something durable).

Thanks will do. And to other Conk users, I think my problem wasnt able to dry due to the size of the bathroom, and travel.

For my DE introduction, I ordered a starter kit. It came with, among other things, a small chrome-plated bowl and a puck of Conk bay rum. For the first two weeks or so I was shaving, I had the conk in the bowl and left it there for safe keeping. I used it every day, and after I got ahold of some good creams I decided that I didn't really like the Conk so much. I took it out of the bowl only to find that it had stripped the chrome finish right off the bowl and turned the bottom of the puck green.

So are you Col. Conk folks using blades to remove the whiskers, or do they just disappear?
:w00t:

Went to check on my Col. Conk soap after I milled it down. All I found is a hole in the floor that I heard music coming from... sounded kinda like Chinese music :tongue_sm
