Shavette on a stick

I like using my shavette but it's really awkward to shave in certain directions. Overall I think safety razors are much more manueverable and easier to control the angle with.

With that being said, has anyone ever tried removing the safety bar from a SE razor? I'm getting a shied GEM and if I'm not happy with the efficiency I'm thinking of cutting off the safety bar.

Welcome to the forum!

From time to time, people have ground away the safety comb from Micromatic Open Comb razors.

And there’s this baby from the ever-inventive @SlimGem

I find using a safety razor at a shallow enough angle that the safety bar or comb isn’t felt at all also works (but doesn’t look as cool).

Why're y'all lookin' at ME? :)

Yup. It's called a "sevette" or "SEvette." Do the same thing with a DE razor and it's a "devette," cut off only one bar on that razor and it's called a "half-sider."

I do love naked edges but as a head shaver I always have struggles with Western style shavettes. Can't see what I'm doing. Kamisori style is better, but for me that good old T shape is great for head shaving. I have used a devette for years, but it's always a tense thing. I spotted SlimGem's "Mantis SE" design and he provided one for testing.

Wow. Some of the best shaves I've ever had. Funny; the most expensive razors in the world shave great (and they should), but this SE razor is really in a class by itself.

So check in with @SlimGem. There was a guy some years ago who cut the teeth out of an MMOC. Never heard how that went but it might have been good.

O.H.
