Shavemac Finest vs Silvertip

Which one is less "floppy"? From what I read, Shavemacs are more densely packed than the Rooney 3/1 I just received.

I'd like soft tips with a little backbone. Suggestions?

And yes, for the record, I've got SBAD going strong right now and it's starting to cause problems. For starters, my wallets been in the corner crying for the last 2 days

You should look at the D01 by shavemac. It is softer than the silvertip but has more backbone. Mor densly packed than standard silvertip.

The finest is excellent. Probably equivalent to the silver tip of other manufacturers. Not floppy at all, but very very soft. I think it's great value. I would consider a custom Shavemac, ordering the loft a little lower than normal. I have a 20mm knot with a 45 mm loft. It is a fantastic brush.

Well said!
+1

I have 4 Shavemac customs in pure, finest, silvertip, and DO1, and will be writing a comparison between them in the next few weeks. All are 21mm brushes with either 50mm or 47mm lofts.

Wow, that should be great! I don't think we've ever had a comparison post with all of Shavemac's hair varieties. I look forward to reading it.

I love my Shavemac in finest, not floppy at all. It is not more dense than my Rooney 3/1 in super.

Good to know. I've heard many people claim Shavemac's knots are typically more dense / packed than Rooney of similar length / loft / hair grade.

I don't know about Shavemac DO1 hair, and I have heard you can request them denser. I just know that my standard Shavemac is not as dense as my standard Rooney.

Here's a photo of the gorgeous Shavemac 23mm silvertip which just arrived from WCS (I ordered it Sunday, and it arrived today, Wednesday). This brush feels great in my hand and is a bargain, especially at the discount price John is currently asking for it. Can't wait to shave with it tomorrow. It does not seem any less densely packed than my Rooney 1/2, although it is definitely a different shape.

Enjoy!

What is the loft on your new Shavemac 23mm ?

I completely love my 23mm silvertip (the VintageBlades version, not that it matters). I think Jim's review and the worthy additions to it accurately capture how wonderful this brush is.

I know, that didn't help much! I've heard very, very good things about Shavemac's finest, as well. I will say the silvertip is on par with my Omega 6215 for softness, and that's pretty darned soft.

I'm also not sure the Shavemac is actually less dense; I think the Rooney's shorter loft makes it seem denser.

Holy crap, I haven't been to West Cost Shaving in a while - I just checked their Shavemac line and they have some AMAZING prices!!! A 21mm Shavemac in Finest for $63?! That just became my #1 brush to recommend.

:w00t: Just ordered one yesterday and a Rooney 3/1 before that

Does anyone know what the loft is on the WCS Shavemac (21mm in finest)? I am looking for a short loft Shavemac...maybe avoiding a custom order. Thanks!
