Shavemac ECO grade?

I was perusing the Shavemac site last night and noticed that Bernd offers a couple grades of badger I hadn't noticed before. Besides Pure Badger and Finest Badger, there is also Pure Badger ECO and Finest Badger ECO. I looked for an explanation of the grades, but could find nothing on the Shavemac site.

Anyone else have any insight into this?

As I understand it, ECO's knots are not handmade...

What are ECO's knots? Is ECO a supplier? Sorry, I'm just missing something. All of Shavemac's brushes are handmade, and there didn't seem to be a difference in price between regular Pure and Finest and ECO Pure and Finest. It just sounds like a different grade. Maybe I'll have to shoot Bernd an email and ask...

Thanks.

I know that Bernd used to sell lines of pure and finest machine made brushes - given that the ECO brushes are less than their counterparts of the same grade of hair, they may be machine made. Also, I note that the page with the picures of these brushes does not say they are handmade (it says nothing, but the pages with the non-ECO brushes clearly indicate that they are handmade).

Not all Shavemacs use handmade knots :hand:

I was looking at the site myself today. I sent Shavemac an E-mail asking what the ECO means. Still waiting for their reply.

Well, the ECO knots are machine tied knots and both the pure and the finest have this metallic looking ring, the hand-tied knot do not have this ring. I bought several of these knots from Bernd and used them in my brushes. The quality of these knots is quite good, I use a brush made with a Pure knot myself and love it. I attach a picture of a brush made with one of the Pure in 23 mm.

NICE brush, RV.

I am a great fan of Shavemac brushes. I have used their Silvertip and Finest grades alike. I wanted another brush and was apprehensive at first about buying anything other than 'handmade knots'. So, I trusted in my experiences with Shavemac products and got one. I was not disappointed.

I bought this 23mm brush 22953 in Finest ECO. I have used it twice with my favorite cream and soap and it is just what one would expect-great comfort, great lathering. To me, it is a bargain. I for one cannot tell any differences with this ECO brush and their Finest grade handmade knots brushes. I have used their Finest brushes for years. The shave is the same-absolutely great!

I only wish it were a little smaller personally. I should have got a 21mm because I tend to 'face lather' most of the time and a smaller brush is preferable. I really need something smaller so I may part with the brush but it won't be because of its performance. Shavemac knows how to make excellent brushes.
