What's new

shavemac Colonia or Americana - any bite on these yet?

used the colonia for the first time yesterday, i was a bit unsure about this brush's performance because of it's spec 24mmx52mm, i have a semogue 2015 HD with similar spec and i find it ok soft and all the rest but not much backbone where as the colonia has a superb feel and finish with plenty of backbone {D01} soft with a nice scrubby feel about it, i can't see myself ever using anything but a shavemac from now on, used it on tabac and i could hear the screams coming from the puck, the other mac in the photo is 23mmx46mm{D01} also an animal in it's own right $IMG_0628.jpg

I ordered the Americana with the D01 knot. I'll post some pics when it arrives. This will be my smallest Shavemac and with the exception of my Simpson Major travel brush, my smallest brush.

Those look pretty nice. I'm kind of impartial to both of them personally.... but they have a rather sophisticated look to them.

Tim, thanks for your interest in the Americana. I don't think you would be disappointed with it in the D01 configuration. I received the first D01 Americana today, and it's beautiful. I'll try and attach a few pics for you guys of both the Finest ( First run of 10 brushes ) and the D01 that showed up today. The Americana D01 is on the left, and the Prototype Finest is on the right. Let me know if you guys have any questions about either.

Regards,
Geoff

The Americana handle design is an eye candy. I have the same handle shape in faux tortoise. It's probably my most comfortable brush for both bowl and face lathering.

StuMcB,

I have that Style 90 w/ D01 as well, pic'd above. The clear acrylic and wood are beautiful. The D01 in that brush is absolutely awesome! If you haven't received it yet, you're in for a treat. Enjoy...

Oy, you are a bad bad man - look at the backlighting on that tortoise, fantastic!

I am seriously interested in that handle with a D01 knot and I will likely order so it can be "gifted" to me for Christmas. I am trying to remain true to my Sabbatical pledge and as long as these remain part of the shavemac line I will be OK.

I have TSN beehive with a D01 and the B&B keyhole with a D01 2-Band; the shavemac D01 series has become my benchmark for brushes.

Hey Geoff, is the Americana D01 on the Shavemac site yet? I can't find it. It looks so good, I would really like some more info on it.

I received my Americana with a D01 3-band knot today. The knot is 25mm with a 50mm loft. The handle is 49.5mm and 36.4mm at its widest point. As you'd expect from Shavemac the workmanship is spectacular. The bloom shot (still wet) is next to a Simpson Jubilee to give a sense of scale. The D01 3-band is among my favorite knots and with just a single shave in I'd say this is one of the best I've experienced. Be aware that this knot's specification is 23mm but as with most Shavemacs, when measured at the top of the handle it is larger. I realize that aesthetics are a matter of personal taste and preference, but to my eye this is quite an attractive brush.

That. Is. Stunning. The handle's just perfect and the knot is an ideal shape. I love my Berkeley 46 Best, but it's been almost a year since I had a new brush. It looks like I'm going Americana shopping in the very near future!

Thanks Tim, It's beckoning you...... Christmas is plenty of time to throw hints out there. Like Ralphy did in A Christmas Story- Put pictures and cut outs all around the house. Just subtle hints...

Awesome Mini Review! Glad you like it.

wsteineker: I promise you won't be disappointed. Let me know if you guys have any more questions. It's nice to see it getting showcased here. Hopefully you guys get it in some nice SOTD pics.

Regards all,
Geoff

I have the Americana and it is a great brush. It is just stunning to look at and is great to use. This is my third Shavemac, and I love every one of them.

The heck with that!!! I am going to pull the trigger on this right around Thanksgiving and sleep well the day that I do it. The only question is whether this bad boy travels alone or with another. Bold talk six months out, but with some careful budgeting and cutting of corners - I think that I can save the funds necessary to make a two-fer happen
