Shave Stick

Hey guys,

I am interested in trying out a shave stick just for the hell of it and wanted to know if you guys had any recommendations on some moisturizing shave sticks if there even is one. I saw that p-160 had some good moisturizing properties and is cheap but it seems it's hard to find the small trial sizes and everyone is sold out.

I also want to add I need something that makes very slick lather when it's whipped up proper. I tend to get bumps if I am not careful.

Its a love it or hate it thing. But if you use it daily, you will eventually desensitize to the smell (which can be good or bad depending on whether you like it)

Try Valobra tallow-based ...

But I still think Tabac is better. Who cares about the smell, I care about results, the smell is gone in 5 min., the result lasts for a day or two. Personally I wouldn't mind if all creams and soaps were unscented, but I don't mind any smell, I just ignore it as long as the fragrance oil they use doesn't irritate my face.

I can recommend Palmolive shave sticks. Cheap, great shaving, and not at your local store, of course. I got mine from a brother who went to Europe, and I bet you could find them online or through the BST here.

Several Do Your Own shave stick threads using glycerin soaps melted and poured in empty deodorant sticks have been posted here. If you purchased a puck of VDH and a travel sized deodorant, you'd be out of pocket on your project about four bucks or less.

You can use any soap as if it were a shave stick, even if it's not shaped quite like a stick. At least one person here "mills" regular soaps and stuffs them into a tube to use as a stick. I have a Penhaligons stick like that. It only stops you from getting your hands dirty holding the puck. I'd rather just use a puck as is. Used to use Mitchell's like that, but never did bother finding something to hold it. A little creativity should solve that.

DR Harris Arlington is a good performer but a little pricey. Nice scent - citrusy. Valobra works well too. Lighter scent than the Arlington

It's got a lot of good stuff in it - tallow, glycerin and lanolin. It makes a really nice cushiony and moisturizing lather. It has a nice subtle scent too - I describe it as old fashioned aftershave-like smell. It reminds me of a '60s drugstore type scent.

There's also Irisch Moos as a Tabac alternative. The scent is easier to take than Tabac. They're really hard to find though.

Any idea on where to get the P-160 without buying a 1 kg brick?

Here in the uk palmolive is 49p, erasmic 59p and boots around a pound and all 3 give good shaves and a good lather.
