Shave Shop B&M

My young son (one year old) and I drove 150 miles south on Saturday to visit his aunt and uncle. On the way I passed through Torrance, home of The Shaver Shop. This is apparently one of the few B&Ms in the greater LA area, and as a new DE shaver, I wanted to stop in and have a peek.

It's a tiny shop in a large strip mall, with a central aisle leading from the front door to the back counter, surrounded by four large, glass display cases. In each were various "razor" products, varying from scissors, DEs, electric clippers, and whatnot. I was most interested, of course, in the DE display. They had every Merkur made on display as well as a dozen or more sets with stands, brushes, and bowls.

I spent a couple of minutes perusing their selection and asked a few questions of Guy, who worked there (his shop?). I compared the Futur with the Progress. While their prices weren't the lowest, their selection and expertise were outstanding. While I love the convenience of shopping online, there's nothing like a hands-on experience at a B&M.

Ultimately, I purchased a Merkur mustache razor, a set of blades, and a tube of Geo. F. Trumper Sandalwood shaving cream. Guy offered to give me a sample, but I went ahead a purchased a tube as I've been wanting to try shaving cream.

I enjoyed my visit and am pleased with my purchases. It's a great little shop, and if you are ever in the Los Angeles area (Southbay), I highly recommend you pay this giant of a little shop a visit.

Sounds like an awesome store to stop at!!

I have never seen anyone review the Merkur Mustache razor: I tend to think of it as a gimmicky unnecessary item, as a standard DE razor does just fine shaving the mustache area.

The fact that you have to use Merkur blades with it (which are likely garbage, as their DE blades are total, and utter crappola) is a further strike against it.
