What's new

Seeking soap suggestions for sensitive skin.

I am running low on my two standby soaps.

For the past few years I have alternated the following:
Honeybee Spa unscented shea butter soap.
Sunflower hill farms sunflower oil and glycerine soap.

I love them both, but am wondering if I should just order more of each or try something else.

Lanoline, and most scented soaps I have tried, irritate my skin. (I mention lanoline to give the MWF lovers a rest).

Any suggestions?

What's your budget?

I am willing to try some more expensive soap. But, considering that the soaps which I already love cost about $4 a puck something expensive really aught to be outstanding.

For instance the sunflower soap is a bit more slippery than Honeybee Sue's but not as rich or moisturizing. So I tend to use more honeybee in the winter and more of the other in the summer. Something with better performance across the board would simplify things.

Tabac is a great soap, but strongly scented... might not be great for sensitive skin. I'd recommend Institute Karite or Art of Shaving unscented.

Institut Karite and Pre de Provence soaps both have been very mild and have given me zero irritation. I keep both in my rotation and like each equally.

Less glamorous but also very mild to the skin is the much reviled (at least here) Williams Mug Soap. I also keep that in my rotation and like it very much. I get nice smooth shaves with it and I actually LIKE its scent.

+1. My brother has very sensitive skin and this is the only soap that works for him.

Thanks for the info on this post. I have sensitive skin as well so these would be a good place for me to look as well. :) So far I have had great results with VDH orange puck and deluxe puck.

Ii've used aos hypo allergenic before and honestly didn't think it was anything special, especially not the pre-shave oil. I might add the cream is fairly hefty on your wallet in comparison to $4 too. I like Pre de Provence a 100x better... it does have scent tho. If you go with the institut karite tell me what you think. I'm interested in trying it myself.

+1 I've tried this and was initially put off by the scent (mine has a little off odor), but went back to it after seeing the results. A very nice soap!

Two words: Trumpers and Rose. I can't recommend this soap highly enough. Nothing I have used is milder. Of course, it depends what sort of blade you use too, so make sure it is properly honed/sharp. I strongly recommend using this with the very good Coral Skin Food. Your skin will thank you for it.

On the other hand, I have recently got my hands on a Palmolive Shave Stick (European type). Cost me 44p at my local supermarket and so far the results are very good. You need to try and see what works along with it. I won't comment on that just yet as I've only just got my hands on it and don't want to jump the gun too soon.
