I have a Size 2, not XL. The 2XL is very large. The dimensions you show above are for the normal Size 2, not the 2XL. The 2XL has a knot diam of 28 mm and a loft of 47mm, according to VintageBladesLLC.com. It is a very big brush, in my view. You are correct that most people order the 2XL, but if you do, you should be aware of its large size.

P.S. The Size 2 is a superb brush and rapidly has become one of my favorites. The tips are soft and the backbone is quite good, but not as firm as Simpsons 2-band. But still a great brush.

Thanks!!! I corrected the error :mad2: . my question was about the XL format not.

I have a stubby 1 and it is excellent. I don't consider it too small at all and now prefer it. Great brush - a tiny bit softer than two band hair.

Per my conversation with Jim at Vintage Blades, the only real difference between the Stubby Heritage and XL Heritage, is that the XL range is denser/packed with more hair but of course that's not to say the Stubby is not plenty dense. For some, the XL Heritage are too dense and a bit more lather hogs so some prefer the Stubby over it because it's a more balanced knot. Hope this makes sense.

Luis, here is a split photo of a Stubby 2 and a Stubby 3 flanked by a pair of 2XLs with different shaped knots. You will probably recognize the one on the left (Finest), which is an M&F like yours, I think, except in a handle that looks a little like Somerset. The 2XL on the right is from the recent batch of Super 2-band. The two middle brushes both have very dense 3-band knots and came out of the NOS brushes Classic Shaving sold last year. I used the Stubby 3 today, and it hasn't fully dried yet. (This will split into two photos, one above the other, on narrow displays.)

I have owned both Stubby XLs and "regular" Stubby brushes. I actually prefer my Stubby 3. I found the XL's a bit too dense, but the "regular" Stubbies to be just right. I'm probably in the minority with this opinion, but my preference is for the the "regular" Stubbies. The only one currently in my collection is the Stubby 3.

I have the 2XL. It's a different feel since the knot is so densely packed. Tons of backbone. Will not splay easily. But it's very soft. I use it for face lathering. It's a fantastic brush!

when i was researching the stubby lines I also wondered about the difference between the regular stubbies and the XL series. I never owned the regular sized stubbies so I cannot speak to how they perform but from what I read, they are less dense than the XL series and therefore will not have that similar cloud feel that you get from the dense XL series. The only thing I ding my XL series brushes on is that they do tend to hog the lather a little bit because they are too dense. I'm guessing the regular stubbies would be great as far as flow-through. I would go with Chris's recommendation and go with a stubby 3.

Only thing I'll add is that my Stubby 2 and Stubby 3 in 3-band Super are both comparable to a Simpson Chubby 1 I have in 3-band Super. The Stubby 2 might be slightly more and the 3 slightly less dense than the Chubby.
