second shave nada

hello just had my first DE razor shave on wed and it was a really great shave and more to the point i enjoyed it , i used a small gillette 3 piece razor with a wilkinson sword blade ,king of shaves shaving oil and then clineque shave cream ,but shaved again on thurs and nothing happened ended up using my quattro (up until wed i swore by it) and had no probs .
I am not new to wet shaving , i'm almost 40 so i've had a few shaves , but i cant get my head around the fact that no amount of effort made any difference to my face ,so what is it , do i need a certain amount of growth before i can shave , bearing in mind that i can happily shave daily with just a wash , rinse and then shave with my face wet when i use my quattro without irritation if i'm out of shave cream .
i like the idea of a de razor and need some advise

I am far from an expert, but I would suggest checking the angle you were holding the razor. Place the razor perpendicular to your face and rotate down until the blade just makes contact with your skin. You should be able to hear the blade on your stubble as a indicator. Hope this helps, but I am sure someone else will be along shortly. Just hang with it, there a bit of a difference in learning how to wield a DE vs. a cart. Best of luck!

Sounds like a classic case of angle to me too.

I sometimes have the same experience with my New.
Just won't work.
But then I remember that it is a good shaver so the problem is probably me.

Some mental resetting, choosing a better angle et voila!

Keeping the right angle could be the problem. But did you put a new blade in after the 1st shave? Some 3 piece razors will keep the blade away from your face if the base plate is put back on upside down.

You probably put the razor together with the base plate facing the wrong way. This is a fairly common mistake for beginners using 3-piece razors. Make sure you put the razor back together with the bottom of the baseplate facing the bottom of the razor.

If you do this you will find you can cut hairs a lot more efficiently.

I saw this from several "new" DE shavers in some razor reviews on Amazon before I picked up my EJ. So, I knew to look for it and in looking at the 3 piece construction, I could see how the mix-up could have been made if I wasn't looking for it.

This "upside down" baseplate was my first thought when reading this thread as a NEWB myself who could have made this mistake had I not read about and thought about this before-hand.

tried to shave with the razor that was in it from wed (1st shave /good shave) then tried changing blade ,possibly put blade in upside down if poss' but the razor itself ,cant really put it together wrong without knowing , starting to think it must be the angle
