Scored a Fatboy

After looking at some Merkurs in AOS today, decided to hunt down a Fatboy instead. Just won a bid on eBay. Probably paid too much, but still cheaper than a Futur and it's got some knurling on the handle. Afraid I couldn't deal with the smooth grip on the Futur.

So now looking forward to starting the learning curve again with the new razor in a week or so.

If the FatBoy is in good condition and you paid less than a Futur, then you probably did fine. Plus, in my opinion, the FatBoy is a better razor than a Futur. The Futur was just way too aggressive for me and I never could get a decent shave that would leave my face in one piece. The FatBoy, on the other hand, has a nice range of adjustability from very mild to fairly aggressive. Be sure to post photos when it comes in.

Nice.

I have no experience with the Futur, but I do like the Fatboy.
In any case, I think it is nice to own and use a piece of shaving history!

BTW, feel free to join the Fatboy Owners Group now and keep us posted!

If the photos are accurate, it's in very good shape.

It was much less than the Futur indeed. I'm not so much looking to have saved the difference in cost; I wanted a classic razor.

Plus, a lot of the input I saw from Futur users here made mention of the smooth handle. I have noted to myself that every other shave the knurled grip on my Merkur 38c saves me from dropping it. It's not that I'm rushed, I just end up with soap or cream all over.

Hope you enjoy it! I'm not an avid razor collector by any means, but I love my Fatboy. And you're right--the knurled grip makes a big difference. I have an EJ DE89L that I like a lot, but (even with the grooved handle) I find it a tiny bit slippery. The Gillette grip can't be beat.
