Anyone have any thoughts on the difference in sharpening a convex grind vs. a scandi grind? I use a Hapstone system for sharpening at home. I'm also interested in field sharpening the two. Any thoughts?
ThanksBark River recommends a pasted leather strop for their convex edges. Denim over a mousepad also works fine.
For Scandi knives I use a simple Norton India but they are mostly used for breaking down boxes and don’t look nice anyway.
I have a lot of experience sharpening. I have no experience with convex grinds though.I use both for camping, hiking, etc. I suppose some people find a scandi a bit easier to hone. Lay the bevel flat and off you go. But if you are practiced at honing a secondary bevel properly, not much practical difference.
For field, camp sharpening, I usually use a vintage washita.
