Sandalwood suggestions

I know this topic has been already discussed but I still haven't figure out which Sandalwood to pick? I might have narrowed it down to Serge Lutens,Maitre de Perfumeur et Gantier,Floris,Montale (though this last one seems like a lost cause unless someone knows the secret to finding this) .Then again, I haven't tried any so before making the expenssive leap I would really like to hear from you.

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend dropping $100-200 on a bottle before you even tried it. You should order some samples first and see how they wear on your skin.

I like this stuff:

Edit to add: its a better deal if you get it with their other shaving products in a package. Thats what I did. I think the sale lasts thru valentines day.

colonial drug is usually pretty good about samples, they are located in Boston and they have mailed me stuff in the past. Also, I am not sure where you live, but if there is an art of shaving store close by, you might want to just go in and check out the sandalwood edt. I am sure they have a sample dispenser.

also theperfumedcourt.com. pricey, but a great place to get samples and/or decants. they have a very large inventory to choose from. there's also our very own member rorschuck, who offers this site for your enabling pleasure.

as well, try here. Mudassir's a straight shooter & a great guy to buy decants from.

Floris doesn't do Sandalwood anymore, unless you can get them to make it through their custom perfumery service. The current Floris Santal is very nice, but it's not Sandalwood or the same as the old "Floris Sandalwood" EdT.

Search the forum for "sandalwood" - dozens of threads here. Also search basenotes - doesn't of threads there too.

+ Infinity!!! Geez - listen to him. I went the expensive route and my wallet suffered for it, especially since the missus rejected 90 percent of what I purchased.

Go to The Perfumed Court and browse through their extensive Sandalwood section, try some decants and then make an educated decision.

Oh, and by the way - true sandalwood is going the way of the dinosaurs. Due to overuse, the world stocks are becoming depleted and the scent houses are either switching over to something else (synthetic) or discontinuing the frags altogether.

Geo F Trumper's Sandalwood is your answer!

There are some great suggestions here, but I implore any fan of GENUINE sandalwood to give Nandita Sandal Oil a try. You can find it on e-Bay for $10 or less. Even if you don't care for it, you're not out much money. I thought I was nuts when my immediate impression of the oil was reminiscent of Floris Sandalwood, but apparently I'm not alone in that assessment.

Oh yea, and a big +1 on samples of more refined sandalwood frags.

You can get the Art of Shaving Sandalwood EDT for about 46.00 from the drugstore.com
They take paypal and delivered in a week.
Good vendor.

My personal favorites have been Edwin Jagger (for colder times, the AS more of a lotion than a balm), and C&E (for anytime, and then some ;-). The creams and soaps are both awesome too.
