Sabi Questions

Thus far, I've been a dedicated vintage Gillette user, mainly using the Slim, Fatboy, and flare-tip Super Speed. I've been thinking about branching out lately, maybe trying some new razors. I really like the looks of the Sabi razors. I understand they're a bit on the aggressive side, even for a solid bar razor. At least compared to the Gillettes I've been using. I don't have a heavy beard, and I shave every other day.

I usually use my adjustables on 5 for the first, WTG pass, and dial them down to 3 for my second, ATG pass. Just wondering how the Sabi compares to that. I've even been somewhat interested in the Cadet OC's, but they're really aggressive, from what I understand.

I used a SABI this morning, I do not think they are overly aggressive. I sold my slim last year, but from what I remember, maybe comparable to 5 on the slim.

I find the Sabi to be pretty aggressive, but not to the point of damaging to my face. They just are a little too dangerous to use without paying attention to your technique. That being said, the T-1&2 handles are well worth the price of admission for use with any 3 piece if the heads don't meet your needs.

The Cadets open combs are also fairly aggressive, but are also capable of a really good shave. The Cadet closed combs are nice and less aggressive than the open combs. I think they're just a step more aggressive than the EJ, but work for me on a quick morning shave to produce fine results.

Thanks guys, this is exactly the kind of info. I was looking for! The price for admission for both the Sabi and Cadet is so low that I wouldn't lose much if they didn't work out for me. Plus, I could always use the Sabi handle on another razor.

I would not buy another SABI nor would I deal with that vendor again. Mine came with a very sharp baseplate. I didn't realize it until metal met skin and then it was too late for a refund even though it was clearly defective. I was basically told "that is how they are".

I have a Matador open comb (Capa Azul) and closed comb (Toro Mastiff) on order; the Mastiff moreso for the handle. My understanding is that the heads are all the same design, although if memory serves the Matadors *may" have a bit more quality control or something based on an interview I read. No idea if this is true, but they sure do look nice, and the laser engraving is a nice touch.

In doing some research, I read the same thing about the sharp corners, and I've seen that others have had issues with that certain vendor. I might go the Matador route as Teppanyaki has, since that vendor also has some blades I'd like to order at the same time.

Yes, you are correct, the ends of the heads some find to be a bit pointed. As I stated to you I do not make the razor nor do I have the ability to machine them either. Besides machining them would cause the plating to fail once the ends are grinded smoother.

The factory has been advised of their defect. You can purchase the same razor from NY Shaving but I am not certain if his heads came through the same as mine did.

We have sold a great many of these and continue to sell them without complaints.
