Rust inside Slim doors?

First, let me confess that after wet shaving for about 2 years, I slipped over to the other side for a few weeks and tried a couple of those plug in style razors. The Panasonic Nano was far better then the Norelco, but still beat up my face, and didn't cut close enough. So I'm happily back to my Slim and just got a re-supply of 5 tubs from Mama Bear's today. Please forgive me for wandering to the other side.

Are the doors and other top parts of a Slim steel? I got mine off ebay a couple years ago, and now the inside of the doors and inside the head apear to rust up. I hit it w/ Scrubbing Bubbles every once in a while (but not often enough) and scrub w/ a tooth brush, but it just keeps getting worse.

Is there anything I can do to prevent the corrosion? Would replating help? (I just searched/read several posts, but didn't read deep enough to know if any platers do Gillette adjustables).

I may get a Progress/Mergress, and retire the Slim.

Thanks for the help.

They are made of brass, so they aren't rusting. You may be scrubbing the plating off to reveal more of the brass.

What blades do you use, and how long are they in there before changing?

I've been using Derby Extras, and I can get a 7 days out of them.
I bet you're going to tell me I'm seeing blade rust in there.
If that's the case, I'll be searching for new blades. I used a couple Swedish Gillettes from my old sample pack over the last week, and really liked them. I guess they're not made anymore, but it showed me I can now use a sharper blade than when I first started wet shaving. So maybe I can find a stainless that I really like.
If it is blade rust, how can I get it out of there w/out using abrasives?
Thanks for the help.

Well, I was going to suggest that possibility. It sometimes happens to me, I also go a week without changing when I'm using my DE's (with some blades more than others).
I just use a toothbrush and the bubbles - that's not really abrasive and the rust comes right out.

I wrongly identified plate loss as rust a few monthes ago.
Check the pictures I posted there.
Does it look similar to you ?

I got some pics taken today. Here's the best result.
After taking the photos, I scrubbed it good w/ Scrubbing Bubbles and a toothbrush. I'm surprised it cleaned up pretty good. There are still a few stains in the inside corners of the doors.
So would everyone agree this is simply an accumulation of rust from the blades?
Should I remove the blade after the shave each day to reduce rusting?
Any other cleaners available that people like?
I need more blades, so I'll buy a few 5 packs from Westcoast shaving. Stainless blades will be on that list.

Thanks again for the help.
