RR La Famigilia Cumba Cheech thoughts

Well, now that I've had the Cumba Cheech for a few weeks and had a chance to use it more than a couple of times, I thought I'd give an update.

As you may recall, I wasn't that impressed on the first and second shaves. I felt like the lather looked good but was not very protective.

Now, it is one of my favorite soaps.

There's a caveat or two. First, I moved it out of its small container and put it into a larger one so I could load the brush more more easily. Second, I found that adding a few drops of glycerin really seemed to help this soap, so now when I use it I always add a few drops of glycerin.

With those caveats, the lather that I am now getting is outstanding. It is plenty slick and now is as protective as any soap I have. I LOVE the scent of Cumba Cheech. I think it's mostly because of the neroli, which reminds me of the now long-lost Penhaligon's Castile shaving cream. I follow my Cumba Cheech shave with some Saint Charles Shave neroli aftershave splash and its pure nirvana.

Thanks to Joe and RR for making this excellent soap available at such a low price. I have a tub of the Don Marco that I haven't even used yet, so I have many more nice shaves to look forward to!

I've read that some people have not had good results with these soaps and that surprises me as I've gotten some of my best lathers & shaves to date with these soaps from day 1. I'm glad to hear you found out how to get the most out of it for you Randall.

I'm still waiting for my Famiglia soaps to arrive:mad3:, but if they are typical RazoRock/Italian soft soaps, then lathering shouldn't be an issue with any of them. A larger diameter bowl is the best option but so far, my King Louis remains in its container, and doesn't fail despite.

What products are you comparing it to?

My biggest regret with my Italian Barber order was that I did not get the Cumba Cheech and Zi'Peppino ASBs in addition to the croaps. Love the scents and performance of those two (in addition to Don Marco and Nonno Michelino).

That Cumba Cheech scent is out of this world!

I ordered Cumba Cheech and Don Marco. In terms of scent, I'm leaning towards the Don Marco but performance wise, both of them are top notch.

I had high hope for it. Now I'm just using it to break in my soc. Would have liked a stronger orange scent to it, on ths other hand I have no issues with it's performance. A great no frills shaving soap. The BN is awesome.

The more I use the La Famiglia soaps, the more I love them. Between these and La Toja, I haven't touched a tallow based product in weeks.

It was never intended to have an orange scent. It's bitter orange FLOWER scent; aka neroli. If you wanted neroli and got orange, you'd also be likely to be unhappy, since they don't smell alike at all.

I'm a huge neroli fan, and I think the Cumba Cheech scent is really nice. If it had, as you say, "more orange," then it wouldn't be neroli, and I'd like it less. Besides, the Don Marco has plenty of Bergamot, which actually IS an orange-ish scent; so for people who want more orange, that soap is also available.

You gave a great run down. I was about to order Chumba for the orange scent. Now, I will go towards Don Marco.

Yep, you can get the flower scent nicely in the Cheech, and I like it. I have Cheech and Marco, both are good soaps with nice slick lather.
