Right case, wrong razor (possibly sold this way?)

Speculation at best I guess. I just picked up a Sheraton on an eBay auction. Listed as an Aristocrat, I knew better (I suspect the other bidders did too). Only reason I really wrnt after it was a cool razor I didn't have in a case for a razor I do have (without a case). True, neither case nor razor are in the greatest of shapes, but I felt it appropriate to house my 34 (ish) Aristocrat in what I am pretty sure is a correct era case.

So, any possibility Gillette actually did sell a Sheraton in an Aristocrat case? The Sheraton appears to be of the same vintage, as it has visible rivets as did the 34 (ish) Aristocrat. So the razor is from the same era as the case. But would they have sold it with the wrong name on it? (Only reason I ask is I'd hate to oust the original razor from it's home if it actually did come that way).

Thoughts?

This is the case I have always seen with the Sheraton. I'm sure your case would be a legit Aristocrat only case.

Thanks. I forgot to post a link to the auction. Like I said, the case is a bit rough. Still fitting and a better home for my '34 Aristocrat than the cardboard jewelery box it's in though. Auction link
And I think the Sheraton will clean up decently.

Yep, that's an Aristocrat case and a Sheraton razor. FWIW, the Sheraton looks like it would clean up quite nicely for a shaver. The teeth look good, the rivets look tight, and it looks like the silo doors close as they should.

And it's really not that Gillette would have mixed them up (not saying it couldn't happen, but highly unlikely given the production line mentality), it's more that people buy them, then maybe get another as a gift, and maybe buy another one later on. They die, family or estate agent just throws things in whatever is handy. They don't know that Razor A goes with Case A. And no one then was thinking "Oh, collector's in 2010 will want everything matched up nice and neat."

Once a razor/case left the factory, there was no further control.

All of the above being part of why it's really nice to find a razor that you know is with it's right case and, if you're lucky, with its cardboard mailer.

Well, good to know the Aristocrat now will have a "proper" home. And the Sheraton (which I also think will clean up quite nicely and be a good shaver) will do quite well with the cardboard box when not in the razor stand (until I can come up with a suitable place/method to put the collection out for display, as I am realizing I will have to do...).

Been a heck of a month! (My first DE razor arrived Sept. 1st, and I am building a decent little collection, though few are pristine, I think I prefer that, as I'm not afraid to use them!).

I'll need to do an end of the month collection/group shot to post

Awesome! Please do.
I also started my collection this month, and I think that we're about neck and neck.

Will do! I've added several in the last couple of days. Looking them over this evening, I suddenly realized I've got seven 40's style Super Speeds... I don't think I planned that .
