What's new

Returning a brush.

Have any of you tried out a new brush, were dissatisfied, and returned it? Did the vendor give you any problems or was it a problem-free resolution (refund or exchange)?

pretty sure once used, it's yours. like underwear and bathing suits and toothbrushes etc.

unless it's defective, you are likely the owner and can sell it on the BST or ebay.

Bruce is right. Unless it's a defective piece, it won't be changed. You can always sell it however.

You may not have any luck returning it, but if you call/email the manufacturer and explain why you want to return it (what defect the brush has), then they may replace it, and then you could return to new/unused replacement.

Knowing first hand the haircut a new brush takes to sell on B/S/T after being used even just once, I would never put the vendor in a position to take back a used brush unless of course it was defective. If you used the brush and it just wasn't your cup of tea, I'm sorry but that's life.

Vie-Long and Gifts&Care.com treat me with great respect
I return after some months a brush with a defective (my opinion) knot
Complete analysis hat happened with some photos
They check it an replace it at no cost !
I will post iτ in a new topic with photos
It was my first brush-returning and Mr Juan showed great professionalism and unique customer care attitude.

if you purchased it using American Express Gold Card (Plat/Black), even if the vendor won't exchange it, you can still file a claim with AmEx simply by telling them that you don't like your purchase and they will handle it from there. You've only got 30 days to file this claim. The vendor won't get a charge back either. This is just another benefit of using American Express, and no I don't work for AmEx.

there is insurance and no hassle returns, then there is abuse. costco will return anything, but there is still some moral obligation on the consumer not to buy DVD's and watch them (saw someone return some last week like this), using a snow blower all year then returning it for summer etc. same goes for the Amex warranty, there is some responsibility on the person claiming to make sure it's not fraudulent or lying to get money back.

if it's simply you don't like the brush, you are stuck with it. many vendors will say this right off the bat "no returns on brushes" somewhere on the site and it's the consumers responsibility to see what the return policy is on items, BEFORE buying them. if it is Defective, they will likely give you an exchange of the same brush. the reason it will likely have to be the same brush is they don't want people buying, saying there is something wrong then changing their mind and upgrading or downgrading to something else as a work around to try and sample brushes.

hopefully we can find out more and he can work it out, but curiosity is getting to some (myself included) and I'd rather know the facts before speculating too much.

can the OP (teddyboy), please tell us more about the brush/vendor in question? not sure why he's being so secretive and not posting more info on it, but in my experience it's usually an indication that something is up.

Brucred- Do you have an AmEx? It's not an abuse when AmEX is selling this insurance as a benefit of the card. Its similar to the lemon policy that they offer and the other 5-6 insurance policies/protections that the card comes with. If I purchase something under $1,000 and I don't like it, I can return it NO QUESTIONS ASKED, EVEN IF THE VENDOR WON"T ACCEPT RETURNS.

That particular insurance benefit is only good for a maximum of $1,000 per year. If I bought a brush w/ my AmEx card and didn't like it, I wouldn't hesitate to get my money back by filing a claim.

I'm not saying your or the OP are abusing it if you use it, but we have yet to hear back from him as to why he even wants to return it? I still feel there is some responsibility to the person buying and what the reason is for returning.

I know it's pretty open ended in their wording, you are ok with buying a $100-150 brush, not like the handle or feel or change your mind, vendor won't take back, so you file an Amex claim?

when this happens, what happens to the item you want to return? do you send it back to Amex, or is it a double dip? ie) you keep the brush in this case and get money back

I'd really like to hear more from the OP. he posted the thread and hasn't been heard of or posted in since. I'm not alone in wanting to know why he wants to return, where it was purchased and what the issue is.
