Restoring Vinyl Albums

Apparently, applying a thin layer of Vick VapoRub on old Classical albums does much to greatly improve the audio quality while removing scratches from the surface.

This only works with Classical, but not with Jazz or an other genrel, thereby proving the wisdom of the old adage

If it ani't Baroque, don't Vicks It!

I have over 500 albums. i am lucky to be able to say most are still mint like when first pressed....But neat idea..

Dammit! I ruined 300 albums before I read that fourth post! :mad3:

Thankfully they were all Classical. Nobody listens to that junk anyway.

No way to restore them, that I'm aware of, other than cleaning. I always used a "Diskwasher" made right here in Missouri!

Little known fact: It is not true that this does not work for jazz. Indeed, this is exactly how Miles Davis came up with the title "Birth of the Cool" :cool2:

Discwasher was great in its day (late 1970's), but there are much more sophisticated and effective methods of cleaning your albums now (primarily involving a variety of fluids and a vacuum record cleaning machine). None of them, however, come with instructions for removing Vicks vaporub, which, I believe, would be a permanent modification.

You guys are killing me!

Don't hang around past midnight -- that's when the pathos and the sarcasm come out -- makes the puns look like child's play. Doug is the master -- I've seen grown men rip their own heads off rather than face Doug. :scared:

Strat, you're too puny!

Sullybob, on the other hand, is calling me "puny" in the barberofdeville shaving thread, or do you think he meant "punny"? Well, we''ll find out after the autopsy. :shifty::whistling::shifty:
