Rescale ERN

I've this ERN for some time now, originally the blade was only a bit rusted on the tang, the blade was in good shape, very, very little hone wear.

I rescaled in in homemade brown micarta, it came out OK, but I never liked the feel of the scales while shaving or stropping

While walking around a hobby store, I saw a sheet of brass-huh, nice liner for scales.

First let me say Horn is a pleasure to work with, brass is the biggest PITA

I decided on black horn with a black wedge to make the brass really pop out.
It came out very nice IMO

Fantastic job Doc. Glad to see the Play-doh is back. As we agreed, I'll be boxing up 20 razors for free rescaling. :)

Sure, send them my way-but you know I might lose a blade or 2 in the shuffle.
Looks great Al... Have you considered a third pin or blade stop for it?
I bought about a third pin, but on these scales it would not work.

Great work! Brass is a pain to work with, I usually use wide masking tape over the surface I with to keep nice, just like on acrylic. I lik to use my 9" disc grinder when shaping it, it allows me to change the effective FPM of the abrasive just by moving in or out from center, but it is a 5 speed as well.

That's a really nice look - much better than before. I've used brass as a liner (as well as copper and nickel silver) and didn't find it too difficult to work with as I got some 0.3mm which apperas to be a bit thinner than yours. This makes it relatively easy to cut out with just kitchen scissors. My initial problem was getting the right adhesive - I'd seen Gorilla glue mentioned in some posts but I found even allowing 24 hours plus, as soon as I started sanding down it pinged off. So I then tried thick CA and have had no problems since.

Regarding the previous post on oxidisation - I've not had any problems but a cotton wool bud with some proprietary cleaner should work well. Incidentally, the stick that holds the cotton bud can also be used for oversized pivot holes - the internal diameter is just right and you can either take the outer diameter down to size or use it with something like epoxy if the hole is bigger.
