Replating a Fatboy?

New to DE shaving the last few months and picked up a super inexpensive Fatboy on Ebay that I want to get restored and re-plated. I have done some searches but most information i turned up looks a little dated. Anyone have suggestions on where to send this item in the U.S. for a quality job at a reasonable price? Should it be done in Rhodium? Reliable Electroplating perhaps...I also saw Restored Razors but it is in the UK.

He does good work, and a nice guy to boot. Here is a FB in his gallery of replates.

Reliable Electroplating did my '59 Fatboy in Rhodium. The pic is before I re-painted the numbers and red indicator. So it is exactly the way it was when they shipped it back to me. It's very shiny!

Found some references to Krono Kruiser so I have sent a PM to him.

Here is a shot of the one he did for me.

Brasser, factory plate, Krona replate on the far right. He has my highest recommendation. Solid businessman.

Regards.

The Slim was done in nickel by Dave and the Fatboy in chrome by Razoremporium. The plating by Dave is superior although it might not come thru in the pic:

This Slim was done by Dave:

All I can say is that I recommend Dave!

Beautiful! Did Dave also repaint the numbers and how long did it take?

He painted the numbers as a part of the service. I can't exactly recall how long it took, but Dave is in UK so the post from Sweden to UK was about a week each way. I think I had my razors back in five weeks. My recommendation for Dave stands firm. I will send him a new job next week!

Wow, I'm wondering if my slim really is meant to be rhodium after all, amazing looking replating :)

The question of which replate to choose is not as straightforward as it might seem at first glance.
One needs to consider what the original look was and where to go with the replate. Dave is a good guy to deal with and to consult in these matters. In retrospect I would perhaps not have replated my Fatboy in chrome, because Gillette newer had them in chrome...
I have had a discussion with Dave wether to do the one in the picture in black chrome or rhodium. I have decided that the modern look will be more pronounced if it is done in black chrome!

It's more a matter of what I should use that isn't nickel, I had to stop using a watch due to allergy, but the fact is that I love my Slim... Wouldn't want it to end up in a state where I wouldn't be able to use it. So it's not a matter of needing a replating because that the current is bad, rather that I might be able to use it in the long run otherwise

I see. Unfortunately I have a family member with nickel allergy. It is not something to wish for. I know from previous discussions with Dave that a golden Slim has a first layer of nickel and is then covered with gold. This might help against nickel sensitivity. Allergies are tricky...

I have a couple more Fatboys to re-plate and thought I might send one to Dave (onotoman) for Rhodium. Can anyone give me an idea of what postage is from CONUS to the UK?

Just sent a Rhodium Fatboy back to the US of A today and the postage was £11 GBP which works out as $16

This insures the razor up to £100 GBP too.

Hope this helps
