I've been thinking about getting a second razor lately. I use my Gillette slim just about every day, and no other razor has been able to come close to the comfort I get with it; not even everybody's favorite DE89L. The Red Tip is supposed to have a gap similar to a Slim set on 5, which is where I almost always leave mine, and I am curious if the shave is similar. If it's close, I'll probably pull the trigger on a Red Tip, but I worry that the different heads will make the shaves dissimilar. Please help me out. Thanks!

I'd suggest picking one up. Gotta feed the RAD somehow, right? I'd have to say I slightly prefer the shave I get from my RedTip over the Slim (on 4 or 5), but only slightly. Of course, for me the Red Tip loses slightly to the Fatboy(also on 4 or 5), but that's a different discussion entirely, isn't it?
I have both a Red Tip and a Slim... And I love them both. With a smooth sharp blade like an Astra or Red Pack IP a great shave is a no brainer.
Remembering what little I do of the Slim, I think you will find the shave similar. Having said that, I prefer the Red Tip to the Slim by a wide margin, mostly because of the handle being fatter.
I got a Red Tip a little while after I got my Slim and Fatboy.
I was not impressed by it. It wasn't particularly aggressive, and shaved no better or closer (I'd say even worse) than the S&FB. The only reason I still have it is because it came with a case and looks cool.
