What's new

Recurve or longbow fans?

I picked up a recurve in high school as a hobby and loved. Work and life got in the way and I eventually gave my 55# Ben Pearson recurve to a friend because he said his daughter wanted to learn to shoot. I've been reading The Hunger Games and it makes me miss shooting. I'm looking for a bow to start again now.

Any other archers use the "old style" bows?

I'd love to learn how or at least get one to shoot, (on my to do list lol)

You have to read the book Dies the Fire (and the subsequent series) hearing that you make them reminded me of the series, one of my favorites.

I had a longbow up until last year and sold it.

Im getting a new one soon. Should be a month or so before it gets made for me.

Old school Howard hill bow wooden arrows and a nice back quiver is the way to go!!

Yes, I'm a longbow fan. I have been know to shoot recurves once in awhile. But always go back to longbows. Been shooting them since the 70's.

Right now I'm shooting an A&H Archery ACS. I have a few self bows and a few Hill style bows I shoot quite a bit. I used to shoot a lot of 65 to 70# stuff but sold everything above 60# now, the bod just can't take it anymore.

i am looking to get a recurve bow for my son. He shot one in scout camp and fell in love with it, my compounds are to heavy of a pull for him can anyone recomend a good starter recurve?

I have not shot a bow since I was a kid, but have been wanting to get back into it and have been researching like crazy. I have come up with some good self build plans for all kinds of traditional bows and some good ideas for target bases...I would love to talk more with some folks who have experience and if anyone is interested in getting copies of some plans for bow, PM me.

never shot a long bow, tell me why I should try it, since I have a couple sets of plans...

Forgot to mention, recurve, Les Dunsdon, 58 inches, 45# at 28 inches

I shoot a recurve and a longbow. I love traditional archery. My mommy got me into it (she shot pro for Matthews and Pearson, was 3rd in the nation one year). I don't hunt due to religious non-violence beliefs, but I love shooting 3D and targets. I guess it is that call to the way things used to be that also got me into wetshaving, maybe my Native American roots... Now I live in the city and haven't shot for a while... I have been wanting to get back to it though.

Longbow and recurve shooter here as well, no mechanical arrow launchers for me. Of course I enjoy the simpler things in life...mechanical watches, manual transmissions, muzzle-loaders, fountain pens, DE shaving :biggrin1:

I have a Bear TigerCat GlassCat recurve from 1970 and a Shakespear longbow from the same time frame. Both are 45# draw. I'm not dialed in enough with my instinctive shooting to hunt with it yet, but I'm getting there. It's tough to unlearn the habits of shooting a compound.

I've never particularly enjoyed shooting a compound bow. A recurve is what I learned on when I was younger and that's what I've stuck with. It's been several years since I've bow hunted and I keep meaning to get back into it. Maybe next year.
