Recommend me a boar brush please

I have decided to get a boar brush. I have been looking at Emsplace at the omega with a tortoise looking handle, but I want to get y'alls opinion. I hear the new Vulfix #18 is great, and there is also the old Vulfix Boars. Any suggestions on a nice boar brush?

I am looking for something that is easy to hold, with a small knot, maybe 20-23mm knot, 21 or 22 being ideal, with soft bristles and densely packed. Also, something with a little weight to it. I like to have a little something to hold onto, and not something the wind can blow over. I hear the resin and plastic handles of the omegas are really light, is this true?

Anyway, I leave you fine group of experts to it!

Thanks!
-Ryan.

I wouldnt go #18 if you want densely packed. It is a bit floppy. One of the other Vulfixes might fit your description, dense yet soft.

The smaller Omega brushes are great. The professional series is more dense, although a bit larger.

You do realize, I hope, that soft will only be obtained by hard labor and intensive use? Any decent boar will get soft, just don't expect it within a week...

I really like my Omega from Em, I saw your PM, and I'll get you some measurements tonight.

Excellent! I found it when looking for a good boar brush. The biggest problem I have with the boar brushes is that there is little information on them. They basically just have 1 picture and say "Pure Bristle Brush," and nothing else is mentioned. And I found you in searching more information about it.

Yep, thats what I've been reading. I hear it takes some good warm water soaks and about a month of use to get it fully broken in, but that is no problem for me. As long as its not scratchy like my Vulfix pure badger is. I used it for about 7-8 months, and its still scratchy on my face when I use it...

Your Vulfix is probably trimmed and if that is the case using it for a couple of centuries won't be enough.
A month is a nice starting point for a boar but I noticed that they still improve a lot from there. Whenever I get myself a new boar I need so much time to get it (more or less) on the same level as my old one that I sometimes think it sucks big time.
It will improve till it falls apart but after about a year it will be close to its full potention.
My guess is that this is one of the main reasons why boars are seen as budget substitutes; a lot of guys won't use them long enough to get to know them for what they are.

Has anyone used the Edwin Jagger or Kent boar bristle brushes? How do they compare to the Omegas?

By other Vulfix you mean...? The Hyde Park, Piccadilly, Strand, Burlington or the VS models?

Get the Omega (any one of the Professional series brushes) and thank us later.

They stink like wet dog for the first week, but after that they smell fine.

To speed the break in and de-stinkification, give the brush several good shampoos, then work some conditioner into the bristles, let it sit for a few minutes and then shampoo it out - do this a bunch of times and you'll be amazed at how quickly it softens up.

I have a bunch of very good badger brushes, but my Omega boar gets plenty of play.

I am using a Wilkinson Sword brush which is a $7 boar brush. At first I thought it is cheap and not worth the money but decided to give a try, I am using it for almost 2 months now every second and I have to say that it's not bad at all. It is very soft but has some backbone, I have tried a vintage badger brush and also liked it but its a different feeling though. I think that for me the size and how big is the loft is more important than boar/badger.
