Recommend a demonstrator?

All,

FP dabbler here. Have a Pilot VP, Pelikan M200 and a Pelikan Pura.

For the longest time, been wanting a demonstrator...any recommendations that don't break the bank? Been looking at the TWSBI series...but can't tell if the forum digs em or not....

If you like to tinker, the Ahab isn't bad, but it is my most expensive pen so take that for what it is worth.

For most, the TWSBI would be an ideal demonstrator. The Platinum Preppy is a demonstrator, and very cheap... but it writes great.

TWSBI, either love or hate or can't decide...

I don't think you can go wrong with any well known pen manufacturer.

Is TWSBI well known?

What do the remaining 1% say?

Custom Heritage 92 can be had on ebay for around 100 bucks in the right auction. Fabulous pen

Actually the one I want but retail is like $220 at my dealer...

I forgot about the Kaweco demonstrators! I have a Kaweco on my wishlist, but the solid black version. Kawecos are great writers and PERFECT for putting in your pocket. Also, they're very affordable.

TWSBI is a well known brand, but in the past have had some issues with the caps cracking. I think with their latest model they've fixed most of those issues. Those who like and use TWSBIs love them, there are others who can't get over their past issues. Kaweco might be a safer bet if you're on the fence.

Also it comes down to how much you want to spend. You tell us how much... and we'll gladly spend twice that amount for you!

The JoWo nibs (German company) that TWSBI is using now are fantastic, imo. I don't own a TWSBI, but I have a couple pens with JoWo nibs in them.

I have a TWSBI 580 in Fine and I'm enjoying it.
I like the fact you can see how much ink is in it and the nib is spot on for my tastes

I among those that love TWSBI. I have three. But then again, I also love Kaweco of which I have two. You can't go wrong with either.

North American retailers on Pilot/sailor/platinum are a lot higher then their japanese counter parts... there is a few highly regarded japanese sellers on ebay that can get you a pilot for half the price of that 220

I've found a couple of Japanese retailers on EBay selling the Heritage for $150....looked legit but I was uncertain

Thanks for the comments folks! I'll advise what I decide on...

The Pelikan M205 is a great pen.

IMHO a good demonstrator should not be a cartridge/converter pen. Either an eyedropper (Kaweco ice/sport!!) or something like a Pelikan or the Pilot 92 mentioned above. (My preference, already owning both, would be the Pilot.)
