Recomended Toothpastes

Is there anyways to make brushing your teeth more enjoyable? I'm hoping to find out that like shaving, I've been doing it wrong. So here we go, does anybody have a toothpaste/brush that's head and shoulders above what they used before?

I don't know about head and shoulders better, but I've been enjoying a tube of Marvis that I came across. I also use the Colgate Pro Clinical, which is pretty good. And a couple of times a week, I'll brush with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. That always leaves me feeling very clean.

After a recent visit for an awesome cleaning, i started using a water pik with a 75/25 of water/mouthwash, and angled and soft picks interdental brushes. next is the electric braun oral-b that I have had for a while for ~2 minutes.

I add floss in the mix a couple daysa week.

I think I have read that the paste is minor in comparison to bristles. Imay be wrong though.

My mouth has never felt so clean and healthy.

Plus I chew a bunch of sugar free gum that IMO causes saliva production and helps the natural cleaning.

I really just use Crest and figured the most excitement I could expect was the quarterly head changing on my Sonicare.

But I guess i sorta thought the same thing about shaving back in August of 2007.

I switched from Crest/Aquafresh/whatever was cheaper to Tom's of Maine a few months ago and my mouth feels much cleaner and healthier. Since I've switched I've had no canker sores, either.

if any of your teeth are capped with white porcelain do NOT use a toothpaste or gel that has artificial "whiteners" in it....your natural teeth may get a little whiter, making the capped teeth look dark and dull...usually dentists try very hard to color match the cap to your natural color of teeth, don't ruin good work !

Consumer Reports liked Ultra Brite; they don't advertise it any more so it is often a bargain. The Sonicare toothbrushes are good, more reliable than the Braun. Glide floss is much better than standard especially if you have tight spacings.

I always gagged badly from toothpaste--as in giving back breakfast wrenching bad. Must've tried 40 toothpastes and brushes. Switched to an electric because it makes less foam, but it still wasn't working that great on my back teeth, especially the inner side. After reading up on some threads here, I finally tracked down a toothpaste without SLS. Now I only gag like a normal human being.

I'm using Tom's of Maine SLS-free: make sure it says SLS-free. There's another brand or two, but I haven't been able to find anywhere to get them. Can't say the toothpaste's as good, but it's usable, which for me is head and shoulders above.

I always supplemented with ultra brite on my front teeth 'cause it's way harsher than anything else. Good for heavy smoking and coffee drinking. The gentler toothpastes I'm stuck with don't do a great job with stains.

Fortunately, oral care has improved in the last century, as shaving methods have declined in quality. Some stuff crosses the line a bit and makes one wonder. For example, Colgate Total contain Triclosan, the same pesticide in anti-bacterial hand soaps, though in much lower concentration. Things like this are a large reason why we have so many resistant bacteria strains killing people.

I currently, and for several years to come, use aquafresh. Primarily, because I get big discounts at work (GSK). I stocked up for my years in grad school.

I personally like the colgate 360 toothbrush, it has pretty stiff bristles along the sides that get in between the tooth and gum well. I stocked up on these too with some costco coupons recently.

Another realm to watch out for is Sunscreen, I read a report recently that many brands contain some chemicals that make it more of a toss up between benefits and risks of using sunscreen. Brands that use Zinc Oxide are the safest.
