Really Liking Arko

My barber gave me a stick of Arko about two weeks ago to try out and I have to say, I really like it. It's so simple to use and it lathers up rather quickly. I know some folks don't like the smell but I think it's fine. I also have the Van der Hagen soaps and they lather well. I have a puck of MWF that I'm saving for a rainy day, LOL. I've been shaving with my DE razor now for about two months and I've finally got up the nerve to shave ATG, no nicks! Thanks everyone!

Glad you enjoy Arko. I just was introduced to this a few weeks back myself. Check out this thread for more information http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/285560-Cult-of-Arko

I just got my first stick earlier this week. I like the scent & the lather is great! What's not to like about this stuff?

I've been wanting to try the stuff, but I can't see buying something that cost more to ship than it cost..JR

Amazon has it available with free super saver shipping. There are lots of ebay sellers offering free shipping too.

I actually liked the smell and liked that it was soft enough to press into a bowl but it really dried my skin out.

I used it this morning to confirm my confirmations. I was standing there thinking ... why does it shave so well and smell so pungent? For a 1$ that's a great shave. Then my stomach was too ill to eat breakfast. NOT chosen.

All soaps should be so easy.

lcome to the group . I also love using arko as do many others here.. Works as well as any of the other expensive soaps I have used..

You're going ahead in leaps and bounds. I don't think that anyone argues too much about the performance of Arko and if the scent doesn't appeal, you can simply unwrap the stick and leave it out for a while. A great value shaving item.

If a barber gave me a free stick of Arko, I would be eternally obligated to be his best friend.

Haha glad you like it, its a great soap!

Arko lathers as well as anything I have used, in fact better than anything except my Castle Forbes creams and it is just as good as those. I use it as a regular part of my rotation. Problem is I really hate the smell, it's obnoxious. If it smelled better I would eliminate pretty much everything else and just use Arko.

At first the smell of Arko really was too much so I cut it thin [grating would work better maybe] and left it on the window sill to de-gass for a few weeks. The result was a much milder smelling Arko but yes the smell is still there and it's not for everyone.
I also have Derby and Tweex soaps and they are both kind of similar ... shave really well but strong on the nose.
I was given some Dr Dittmar and that stuff lathers very well has a very mild faintly soapy smell and shaves just great, I would suggest you give it a try if you prefer your soaps to be neutral smelling.

honestly I enjoy it. I air it out a week. drop it in a ziplock bag with some oils, mashed. then microwave to fit in a mini tupperware container. i bathe them in laurel infused water. works well.

Not sure that microwaving this soap would be the best for it, it is tallow based not glycerine and may impact the soap.
