What's new

really ebay?? REALLY??

there is a auction going on right now that the title says "Military Issue Straight Edge Razor WWII with Vintage Shaving Brush & Mug Soap"........ *(i will not link to it for the obvious reasons..)

ITS A FREAKING POCKET KNIFE WITH THE TIP BROKEN OFF WITH A BRUSH AND A PUCK OF SOAP........

i can see the brush and soap because they look nice....

BUT ITS A POCKET KNIFE WITH THE TIP BROKEN OFF!!!!

come on!! really???

*(i feel better.... carry on)

Don't you be talkin bad about my great uncles razor. It's the ULTIMATE straight edge. You don't even want to know the garnet content.

There's some epoxy on the blade... but it's USABLE AS IS!

This auction had a 2day set JoRodge as a "You may like" suggestion. Damn them boxes are purdy.

I bought a funny looking razor on ebay yesterday..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-Anti...ltDomain_0&hash=item3a77e15d44#ht_1643wt_1396
Seller had no clue that the funny looking razor was Miller Brothers "rope knife" made around the turn of the century. I've been lusting after after one of those big rope knives for years, but refused to pay the going rate. As it was, I got the funny looking razor along with 7 other decent looking razors for less than what the rope knives generally bring on ebay when they sell by themselves.

The reason those knives have no point is due to maritime law during the era they were made, it was illegal for a sailor to carry a knife with a point on it. This knife is a a brawny hand full of knife as they were also made to be driven through a hemp rope with a wooden marlin spike.

I guess sailors in those days tended to be a bit stabby.

Cool story. Seen those sold as razors a few times, always figured they were junk.

I like the ones that have something like "L@@K!!! SUPER RARE VINTAGE SAFETY RAZOR!!!!!!" (not an actual listing title...I hope)

Then inside the listing something like:

"Very rare razor....One of a kind"
"I am not a razor expert...but..."
"The razor does not have any markings....but it is a super rare razor"
"returns not accepted"

Most of them are junk, but every now and then a nice one slips through.

You can get burned ten times as fast buying vintage pocket knives as you will buying vintage razors. If you're going to get in that game, I strongly advise you to do LOTS of homework first because the shysters have figured out how to counterfeit tang stamps very nicely these days. :glare:

Thanks for the advice, but I've never been much of a pocketknife guy. I prefer my knives non-folding.

Hey at least every other razor on eBay isn't one of those TWO THOUSAND YEAR OLD RAZOR! DID JESUS USE IT DURING THE CIVIL WAR!!!?!!!!! from China anymore.

I used to dabble with Narzi edged weapons back in the 70's.

NOT any more. The "experten" are having difficulty sorting the fakes from the real ones now.

Been known to buy and sell a few fixed blades here and there myself. Pretty much quit as what I've got left, I plane to use use on zombies if it boils to CQB.

Then there are some things that aren't the sellers fault but make you wonder what the hell the bidders are thinking.

There's a 2x1" glued combo slurry stone with the coti MISSING... so it's a 2x1" BBW that's at $30 shipped right now with an hour to go.

Who pays that for a bbw slurry? Hell that's too much even if the coti wasn't missing.
