Razor Polishing

I've read a few threads that mentioned the cleaning procedure after each shave, and people have mentioned polishing, when you polish on a daily basis, do you just use a damp towel or wash cloth to polish, or am I way off on this? Also, I've currently been leaving the silo doors cracked after rinsing in hot water to let dry, is this adequate?

Thanks in advance,
Jason

Some folks clean the razor completely each time it is used, others clean it as it goes out of rotation after a week of use or so, some less than that.
It's a personal thing, and what's right for you is right for you. Is it necessary to clean a razor completely with scrubbing bubbles each and every day? No. Is there any real harm in it? No.
Having said that, to me, the word "polishing" means using some chemical that is prescribed for the removal of tarnish or to brighten metal objects.
Generally speaking, it is unnecessary to polish a razor that frequently, and it will just lead to premature failure of the plating.
Leaving the silo doors cracked open is fine, a lot of people leave them closed (but not torqued down) and some open them all the way.
There is no empirical evidence to suggest that the degree of door open is any more or less beneficial.

Once I've polished a razor that needs it, it'll never need it again because I keep them clean.

I'm a 'Scrubbing Bubbles after the blade goes out of it and it gets put back up' shaver myself.

Actually now that I think about it, I got a few old 'brassy' ones around that are probably going to need a lick of polish down the road, as any plating they ever had is history

I am too concerned with the micro-thin plating to polish more than absolutely necessary. I understand alcohol displaces water, so I keep a small jar with rubbing alcohol in the cupboard. After a shave, I dip the razor and that's about it. Other than that and rinsing, I do not clean a razor until I notice it needs a cleaning.

Well, I only have one DE razor, so it don't make it out of my rotation.

Nothing wrong with that my friend.

That's money you can use on other things like wives or girlfirends birthdays, shoes for the kids etc. instead of an ever increasing stockpile of vintage shavers!!:lol:

I didn't say I don't want more razors, I just don't have anymore. But one day, I hope to suffer from the fever...
