I'm really amazed more and more with how close the R41 (2013) shaves with each shave. I've been using it for a week now and came to the conclusion that I can get a BBS in just 2 passes with some touch-ups. I highly recommend this razor for anyone looking for that super close shave. Technique is definitely crucial with this razor and I'm sure part of it depends on hair growth among other variables of course, so YMMV.
I gotta say, THIS is the shave I was looking for when I started with DE wet shaving! Smoother than ever and more satisfying than anything I've used thus far. Using an Astra SP right now, but will be testing out a Feather blade in the weeks ahead once my technique improves a bit. I'm being super careful and attentive to each pass as I could see the potential to easily get a couple cuts and nicks. However, I think this razor really puts an emphasis on how to improve your technique as you can feel the blade a bit more (but not too much). I've been fortunate to not have any nicks or cuts yet (knock on wood) using this amazing piece of shaving excellence. I may never go back to my Merkur 34C...perhaps that becomes my travel razor...or not...a second R41 may be in the works as well! HA!
