Questions about the Gillette Permasharps from India

I seem to find conflicting information and nothing definitive. Maybe my googlefu is weak. But anyway...

1. Do the PermaSharps have coating?
2. Do they have those annoying glue spots?
3. How would you rate them in the Gillette line.

I'm particularly interested in these because they look to be inexpensive and a quality blade. I'm now in the process of stockpiling years of blades to last me for the next 20 years so I'm not keen on paying the feather price.

3.
I rate them top in Gillette line. Same sharpness and smoothness as Gillette blacks maybe lasting a little bit less comparing to them. As they cost half the price of black ones sure worth the price.

I bought about 900 of these green indian blades for my stock and no regrets at all.

Sure you should buy a smaller bath because as all other blades, these may not be suitable for your beard.

Thanks for your input! I figured that these could be a safe bet as I have excellent results with the sharpedges, blue labs, Astra's and wilkinsons. My skin seems to be pretty adaptable.

1. I do not know if they have a coating.
2. They have the 4 glue spots but about half the amount the old Astra blades had and not a problem for me.
3. At 12 cents per blade they are a real bargain. I find the first shave a little harsher than the Black blade. After the first shave they perform as well and last as long as the Black blade for me.

I bought 600 blades and use them daily. I prefer them to the Yellow and Russian Green. I have not tried any version of the Blue.

They are coated with PTFE. The recent batch of 7'oclock blacks that I received came without any glue dots at all.

Gillette Blacks and Polsilver Super Iridiums are probably my top two blades for combination smooth and sharp balance. Blacks a tad sharper and SI's a tad smoother. Then my next three favorites are probably Feathers, Silver Blues and Permasharps. I probably won't pay the premium for Feather for a while as I have the better part of 200 left. Silver Blues I have probably a few hundred. I'll probably get 300 Permasharps.

OP - definitely try before buying in bulk. While I agree with some of your favorites the Wilkies and Lab Blues don't seem to agree with me as well. It's very true everyone's face is a bit different.

I rate them very high in the Gillette line. Yes, they have wax spots, but very very small ones. No problem at all and absolutely no comparison to the annoying Petersburg spots.

BUT: I used to buy them from eBay sellers in India. Lots of them had these blades for a very low price. For 2 months now they are gone completely. No ebay seller in India is carrying them any longer.

Another one bites the dust? Or a simple drop in supply?

Just now I searched and found plenty of them, just like I did when I bought them less than a month ago. I bought this lot of 25 as a sample, and although the packages pictured say "Super Stainless", the packs I received say "Permasharp Stainless". I'm guessing that all the sellers use stock photos of the Russian blades, or that Gillette has rebranded them as "Super Stainless" in India as well, and that there is still old package stock around. If the listing information says "Country of Manufacture: India" I'm pretty confident you're getting 7 O'Clock Permasharp Stainless, or its renamed twin.

Just searched again, and yes, it's true, there is one single indian dealer offering them in lots of 25 (or buy three, get 4). Used to be offered in lots of 50, 100 or 300 not very long ago.

Try again with search term "gillette permasharp" (no quotes). I find two sellers, the one I already linked to selling lots of 25, another seller with lots from 20 to 300 blades.

Here is the link for 300 blades. Photo shows the Russian Greens but they are Indian Permasharp Greens. 300 blades for $35 with free shipping is a pretty good deal.

Well I ordered a lot 300 on eBay. Just waiting for them to make the trip from India. If I don't like them I can always pif then.

I find Gillette Permasharps Green similar to Gillette 7 O' Clock Blacks. The first shave can be a little more edgy but subsequent shaves are very much like the Black blade. For the first shave I use a less aggressive razor like a Gillette Tech. Then I switch the blade out to a more aggressive razor. I think you will like them. I think they are a better blade than the Astra SP at the same price.
