Question re: measuring a brush

Sorry if this is covered specifically somewhere else, but I did not see this in any of the stickies. When measuring the knot size of a brush, do you measure the size of the knot where it meets the handle? Or do you measure the knot at the top/tip of the brush?

The reason I ask is that I want to measure a brush I have to sell on the B/S/T and it's brand new. The knot has not been used so it has not bloomed. Measuring the knot from the top/tip doesn't seem right for some reason.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The knot is where the hair meets the handle. Measure the diameter, not the circumference, and use calipers if you can. Adjust the calipers so that they just touch the hair, but do not compress it. If you don't have calipers, set the brush on a measuring tape and eyeball it to the best of your ability. Measure in millimeters.
