Question About The Lock Down Turn On Later Model Super Adjustable (Black Beauty)

Should the lock down turn feel the same on this model as previous ones? I just acquired a late 1980's model in excellent condition that had very little soap scum on it. The lock down turn is very tight and does not have that same feel of spongy firmness (for lack of better words) with a definite stopping point that my earlier models have. I assumed it had gunk in the shaft, but several soaks in hot, soapy water (which usually works like a charm) have done little to alleviate the tightness.

This is the model I'm talking about:

Ras i just tried 2 Chrome Metal heads, 2 Gold Heads, and 1 Short Head, and also one just like yours with the Diamond pattern knurling with Plastic Bottom plate, and they all feel the same way, kinda Spongy when closing at the End, and mine are all pretty clean specimens of the Black Beauty Razor .

I just recently cleaned up an SA that initially wouldn't even turn through the last 1/4 turn. I soaked in scrubbing bubbles/water mix several times, working the last 1/4 turn progressively until it would turn all the way. It took quite a bit of effort, but now feels pretty much the same as my slims or fatboys.

just found this thread and I have a similar issue. My black beauty is 1980 and is the same model as you have pictured. The last 1/4 turn really has to be forced and doesn't appear to do anything to the head or lock the blade down. I'm worried I might break the handle of TTO mechanism. Did you ever get yours freed up?
