I don't see why it wouldn't be. I shower and wash my face with whatever soap the wife has in there as my face prep.

Could be. As a newby I found out (with some help from more experienced members) that a good soap and/or prep are just as important as the blade. I wash my face now with raw shea butter soap (had that lying around, ortherwise it would have been olive oil soap). I keep the soap on, and put the lather on top of it. With a blade that agrees with my face I get very good results. Have a razor which is probabely very mild / not agressive.
For soap I use Cella, Godrej and KMF. The last two are inexpensive, but good. Cella is a bit more expensive, but excellent.
Blades is a matter of trying them out. I got myself quite a few of samplers in order to find which blades worked for me.

i meant just as a face wash to have good skin etc lol to shave ill use taylor of old bond street sandalwood cream :p

No harm in trying it for a few weeks, but a lot of people find olive oil soap to be (surprisingly) drying to their skin.

I have been using Dr Bronners liquid soap for about a month now and I use it for my body and face. Find it works great pre-shave or otherwise and it is olive oil based.

Good ol fashioned Noxema is a great facial cleanser, perfect set up for a shave. I would say too, put a thin coat of Nivea Creme, the moisturizing creme, on your face before you lather. Nivea Creme will protect your skin from razor burn and irritation from shaving. These work for me and I hope for you.
