What's new

Newbie from New England checking in! Look out rabbit hole!

Welcome from N.E. also / N.H.
I start wet shaving at 16 (w/ a straight razor) with huge guidance from my super dad.
Now just 67, still pretty much a daily stubble executioner.

Glad to have you & Congrats!
Enjoy & have fun..

Wow impressive starting with a straight razor at 16. I have memories of my dad shaving with a DE. Tried mimicking him when I was about 6 year old. Found his razor and went to town. Freaked out my mom when I proudly came down to show her the results. Had a bunch of nicks and toilet paper nips sticking all over my face:laugh: Last time I ever touched a DE until recently.

Great to have you on board. Your post reads more like an experienced DE shavers, sounds like you've gone far pretty quickly. While acquiring razors, new ones are definitely one path to take, I might suggest looking at either a vintage Gillette Fat Boy or the Slim. Both are adjustable razors, way cool vintage picks and would afford you an experience going from mild to more aggressive.

The gents here are very knowledgeable and you'll find reviews and experience(s) galore.

My preference has been and remains vintage and my favorite razor to date is my Gillette New Long Comb with fat handle. For my mug a bit more aggressive than then Techs I have and just an enjoyable shave.

Have fun exploring the many blades to select from...oh so many and so little time.

Welcome and have a blast.
Also considering an adjustable after gaining more experience. I'm using the same razor for both head and face but sometimes wishing for a different a setting for the face portion which isn't as sensitive.

That is certainly a shave memory ( or nightmare). Glad you survived that close one, pun intended. But hey, at least you have the drive and the courage now to jump back in.

Quick History > My dad got his skills from my grandfather. Who started as a barber in Italy. Then got into real estate before jumping the pond to the states. My dad would tell me he was classical trained...lol..
Then my dad carried on the stubble execution tradition, teaching me and my 3 younger brothers. I did not use DE's until I was mid-way through Northeastern U, mainly because of lack of time & speed.
So for us, it was like brushing teeth but with an Italian twist of passion.
Dad was also a Korea War Vet. He came back with a Bronze Metal Star. He was a sharpshooter / Sgt Maj.
Not only an amazing dad ( & mom) to bring up of 6 us (3 bros / 3 sis) . But a hero all around.... He just turned 97 in November. Very active & still a daily (wet / traditional) shaver & more.....
Talk about hobbies, of course now I know way I have all of mine...

Enjoy the shave and have fun....

Cheers

Small world. I also come from a family of 6 kids. Four boys and 2 girls. My father was also a Korean War vet. If I recall correctly he was in the ordinance battalion. Glad to hear you still have your dad around. Thanks for sharing the wonderful memories.

Welcome to the forum GTTony - You'll love it here honest - haha!

Russian ex-pat living in Manchester, NW England and a war vet working for Medecins sans Frontieres in Ramallah, West Bank and Portrush, Northern Ireland.

Welcome from RI. Love my Blackbird and love NH. I always had this thought of one day shaving on the rocks along the Kancamagus Highway river with a mirror in hand…random I know but just a thing. 😁

Welcome from Kennesaw Georgia.

I just got a Henson AL13 and paired it with one of the RK blades that come with the razor. Had my first shave with it Sunday. Was one of my best shaves ever.

I am looking at a Blackbird but that acquisition will have to wait for later in the year. The Rabbit Hole is real
