Shaving soap in a jar is brilliant for sales, transportation and storage but a lot of my traditional high essential oil / high vegetable oil / tallow soaps benefit from proper draining and airing so I put them on a proper rack after use.
I have Proraso shaving soap in a jar I got as a gift but not used it yet.
I'm old-fashioned but open to new ideas and lately have discovered commercial shaving butters in a tube and artisan whipped soaps and handmade shaving butters where you can spoon a bit on a brush, or in a bowl and the soap doesn't get damp in the container.
I've seen special spoons that are just for soap that are like mini shovels which is a good idea so no need to drain the jar or air it and it doesn't get full of dirty water, hair and skin then which is where trad bars that can be rinsed can have an advantage over potted shaving soaps.
I also use artisan liquid soaps, body washes and hand soaps, which are great for sharing and more hygienic for me at least.
A liquid Castile soap is brilliant because you can easily customise it to your exact requirements.
You can make it thicker by adding salt, you can make it less alkaline by adding a small amount of powdered citric acid or lemon juice, one can dilute it with water if it is too viscous or strong smelling or make it slicker with added glycerine and change the scent by adding essential oils - the possibilities are endless.
